Block request for StalwartLabs

[edit]

Hi,

I am writing in response to the block request related to my user account "StalwartLabs." I would like to clarify that the edits I made were in connection with an open-source project, specifically our mail server software, which can be found at https://github.com/stalwartlabs/mail-server This project is entirely open-source and has significant recognition within the community, evidenced by its 5,000 stars on GitHub. Additionally, it ranks on the first page of Google search for relevant terms like "mail server software." I believe these factors demonstrate the project's notability and relevance under Wikipedia's guidelines for popularity and verifiability, and I respectfully request that this be taken into consideration in relation to the block request. Thank you for your time and understanding. PS: I also contacted @Taivo regarding this block request. StalwartLabs (talk) 16:19, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I apreciate you reaching out,
The issue with your username is that it implies shared use. This username is an instant block at en-wiki. However, what you can do is request a rename to user:Jondoe-StalwartLabs, or equivalent. In order to do this, you would need to verify your identity using VRT. I am going to remind you that you cant advertise on commons, or any Wikimedia project. @Taivo, Let me know if I missed anything. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:31, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I did not know about shared use but I have just requested a rename. I am aware that advertising is not allowed, I just would like to submit a technical Wikipedia page avoiding promotional language, similarly to another open source mail server called Dovecot https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dovecot_(software) - Stalwart has been listed in Wikipedia under https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mail_server_software for a few months already but its page does not exist yet. StalwartLabs (talk) 16:50, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to recomend you go to en-wiki to sort that out. This is Wikimedia commons, we are an image repository, not an encyclopedia. I would recommend making a request at at the English Wikipedia teahouse, they can point you in the right direction. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:54, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) I guess there's a learning curve here, but I'll try to sort this out for you. Chuck doesn't appear to be an admin, it looks like no one has blocked you and it also looks like you don't even have an account at Wikipedia. What did happen is that Chuck took action to have your upload deleted under the pretense that it's advertising. As you're not presently engaging in concurrent activity at Wikipedia, it's easy to develop such an impression. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 22:33, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, I am not an admin, the reason I am recomending en-wiki is becuase they mention creating an article and reference wikipedia links in their response. I can't guarantee that you will get a wikipedia article, as you have to meet the english wikipedia's notablity criteria to get an article. The TLDR of that page is, unless the project has a lot of secondary sources writing about it, you won't be able to get an article or a list entry.
@RadioKAOS, let me know if I missed anything, and welcome to my talk page. I'll put up some signage shortly.

Wrong reason for files deletion request

[edit]

I've been a Wikipedia contributor for several years and I've just put the CHAA-FM page online on the French version of Wikipedia. I helped the user @Eric Tétreault to upload files to complete the article, and this person owns the rights to the images and logos, he's the general manager of this radio station in Montreal. These are not advertisements, but the visual identities of this community radio station, as well as photos of their premises!

Please cancel your deletion requests for the files uploaded by Eric Tétreault. Thank you.--JBouchez (talk) 19:17, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you have him verify his ownership with VRT? We need verification that he has the ability to release the logos/photos under a creative commons license. If he cannot release them under a free license, then the need to be moved to en-wiki. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 21:09, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've never heard of VRT. He is the director of the organization. I'll send him an email explaining the process. I really hope it will work, this is quite disappointing. JBouchez (talk) 01:44, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would recommend adding the legal department to the email. Copyright is one of those things that must be run through legal before they happen. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 01:51, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Abuse filter log

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for helping, but please read the abuse filter log before responding at COM:FILTERT or let me know if you are not allowed to see the filter numbers (I know I can't see those numbers in incognito mode, but I can when logged in). My response in the case of -αβοοδ would have been "Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/245 by trying to edit a page in userspace that is not your account's without being autopatrolled. Please avoid such edits, and request autopatrol at COM:RFR when you think you are ready. ~~~~"   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:02, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting my mistake, I can see the numbers, but can't see the hidden filters. Does commons have filter managers, or can only admins see the edit filters? All the Best -- Chuck Talk 19:51, 20 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hey, I was reading your userpage and clicked on "I trust you", which forwarded me to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGF, which is a disambiguation page on the English Wikipedia. I tried to fix it, to forward to en:WP:AGF on the English Wiki instead, because you trust me (<3), but got the really cool message telling me I can't really edit someone else's userpage (the filter flagged it because it's not an edit people usually make). So I'm writing here to notify you of it. TheBooker66, but call me Ethan (talk) 16:56, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for telling me! I've fixed the mistake. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 20:34, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback right given

[edit]

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Commons:Rollback. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Regards, Aafi (talk) 03:59, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WLKBot

[edit]

Please note that what the WLKBot did to the subcategories of Category:Statens Museum for Kunst was not a bug. It was actually intended. Hjart (talk) 18:31, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain, I was asked by the owner of the bot to rollback all edits after October 1st per this thread. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 18:34, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hjart, Can you please clarify, rather than restoring the content? All the Best -- Chuck Talk 18:38, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly was the bug? Please see User talk:Ham II#"in the Statens Museum for Kunst". I've been editing a lot of these files in the past. Hjart (talk) 18:43, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the thread in WLKBot. It has been decided not to use "the" (Statens Museum). So please roll back the rollbacks that restored the "the". Cheers Rsteen (talk) 02:48, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
