Cat-a-lot problem

Hi Achim - sorry to trouble you about these, but there's still quite a lot of files in Category:Dicrurus hottentottus (museum specimens) with that invisible character problem preventing Cat-a-lot use - if you have time to deal with them, could you do so please? Wikidata

Category:Computer performance (u.a.): "bitte per wikidata, wenn moeglich" — habe ich ein paarmal versucht, aber nicht geschafft. Hab's gerade vom Tablet aus bei der neuen Category:Alloy analyzer (computer science) versucht, und es scheint diesmal geklappt zu haben. Allerdings gab's den Wikidata-Eintrag schon vorher, fuer EN/DE. - Jochen Burghardt (talk) 06:26, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

Hallo Jochen, wenn's noch kein Wikidata-Objekt gibt ist es ja ok, wenn man [[en:faselusw]] hinzufügt (deshalb mein Zusatz 'wenn möglich', ich hab auch meist keine Lust dazu, ein neues Objekt anzulegen). Wenn du aber den Namen einer Seite kennst (egal, von welchem Wiki) und ein Objekt in Wikidata existiert, dann isses ganz einfach: Nehmen wir mal eine unverlinkte Cat-Seite (sonst sieht man das Fenster nicht), z. B. Category:Didoku puzzles. Klickst du in der linken Spalte ganz unten auf 'Links hinzufügen', geht ein Fenster auf, gibst du die Sprache/das Wiki ein (z. B. 'en' oder 'de') und im zweiten Eingabefeld den Namen der Seite, und fertig, der Rest passiert dann von alleine, da braucht man nichtmal auf Wikidata zu wechseln. Noch vergessen zu erwähnen, diese Methode funktioniert auf die beschriebene Weise nur, wenn kein Eintrag [[de:irgendwas]] vorhanden ist, sonst will er ein neues Objekt generieren (k. A. warum das so ist). Hab gerade ein echtes Beispiel zum Üben gefunden: d:Q285896 existiert, de:Jimmaku Kyūgorō auch, und Category:Jinmaku Kyūgorō ist derzeit nicht verlinkt. Danke fuer die ausfuehrlichen Erklaerungen! — Von meinem PC mit altem Ubuntu und Firefox aus klappts nicht, wie ich gerade nochmal bei Category:Michael Kohlhase erfahren durfte. Ein Screenshot der Fehlermeldung steht unter File:Wikidata PC1.gif. Es gibt anscheinend wikidata-Eintraege fuer die Seiten de:Michael Kohlhase, en:Michael Kohlhase und it:Michael Kohlhase. Also eigentlich dieselbe Situation wie bei Category:Alloy analyzer (computer science). Bzw. doch nicht ganz: bei wikidata steht ein Eintrag "Other sites / commons / Michael Kohlhase". Wieso darf ich aber dann nicht diesen Link auf die Kategorie (waere m.E. sinnvoller) zeigen lassen? Noch besser waere, sowohl bei Category:Michael Kohlhase als auch bei Michael Kohlhase einen Link zu haben, das geht aber wohl nicht? - Jochen Burghardt (talk) 12:04, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Bei Category:Gerald Jay Sussman hats gerade auch von meinem PC aus geklappt. Es scheint also nicht am alten Browser zu liegen, sondern am "Other sites / commons" Eintrag bei wikidata (der war bei Sussman nicht vorhanden und zeigt jetzt auf Category:Gerald Jay Sussman). Gibt es eine Policy, ob die commons-Eintraege bei wikidata auf Kategorien oder auf "Pages" zeigen sollen? Jochen, wenn pages(=galleries) dieselben 3 Bilder enthalten, die auch in der Kategorie sind, dann ist das natürlich Unsinn. Wenn aber eine Kategorie wie z. B. Category:Cologne Cathedral mehr als 1000 files (incl. Unterkategorien) hat, dann ist eine zugehörige Gallery Kölner Dom durchaus sinnvoll, wenn sie mit einer nicht zu großen Anzahl von Bildern exemplarisch gewisse Aspekte des Objekts bietet. - Dass eine wp-Seite in wikidata auf eine Commons-Gallery verlinkt (so sie denn existiert) finde ich auch nicht so gut, aber ich glaube leider nicht, dass sich das ohne weiteres ändern lässt. Da bleibt nur der Umweg von der Gallery zur Category (oder umgekehrt), oder man trägt eben doch zusätzlich [[de:blafasel]] ein. Gruß, --Achim (talk) 09:48, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

Scusa una cosa a riguardo del copyright non mi è chiara forse:

Hallo Achim55, eine Frage habe ich noch, es geht um Kategorien über Ortsteile:

Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Bispingen

Wie ist die Schreibung hier in Commons geregelt: Formuliert man Bispingen-Wilsede oder Wilsede (Bispingen)? ChristianSW (talk) 06:16, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

Christian, das Wichtigste ist hier Eindeutigkeit. Es gibt anscheinend nur 1 Wilsede per Wikipedia-Suche und vorsichtshalber Kontrolle über den Postleitzahlenserver https://www.postdirekt.de/plzserver/, dasselbe gilt wohl auch für Dorfmark. Insofern ist gegen Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Wilsede nichts einzuwenden. Gäbe es 2 Wilsedes, dann würde man zwischen Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Wilsede (Bispingen) und Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Wilsede (irgendwoanders) unterscheiden. Categories under development?

Hi, Achim55. Back in May, you tagged some categories as being under development. You can see these categories in Category:Categories under development. All these categories are empty. Are they still needed? --Auntof6 (talk) 05:42, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Auntof6, I know about that, there were some categories which had been created in advance for the WLE project to be populated later. Some of these had been deleted for being empty and that caused a lot of trouble and harsh words (see here). Therefore I tagged a few of them {{CatDevelop}} for to prevent them of getting deleted (don't show up here) and calming down that case. So let's keep them still for a while.

After that issue a template {{Prospective category}} has been created newly, which fits better so we can replace the tag {{CatDevelop}} by {{Prospective category}} on categories in question. Best, --Achim (talk) 09:05, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Davey, in general it's not a good idea to blank a page for it hinders an admin's work. We have to look how has it been before, where did it link before, what had it been tagged before and so on. Best way is to leave it as it is and tag it additionally {{Speedy}} for speedy deletion or tag it {{Bad name}} if it's a typo or a badly named dupe or tag it {{Move}} for renaming a cat or start a {{Category for discussion}} to discuss renaming/merging/deletion or tag it for deletion using a regular DR. In most cases the dest category should be deleted except the rare case the revision history of the dest cat is worth to be kept, then only a category redirect (if there is one) might be removed to avoid cross-redirecting. Best --Achim (talk) 18:35, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Löschung

Hallo Achim, in allen Beiträgen von mir wurden die Bilder gelöscht, obwohl ich alle Rechte der Eigentümer habe, diese zu publizieren. Leider fehlt nun auch der Diskussionsbeitrag desjenigen, der gelöscht hat. Ich würde die Bilder gerne wieder einstellen. Was kann ich tun? Hallo Dagmarkh, bitte auf keinen Fall erneut hochladen, das gilt hier mindestens als "verärgerndes Verhalten". Die Bilder sind nicht wirklich weggelöscht, sondern nur nicht zugreifbar, sozusagen unsichtbar gemacht. Sie können jederzeit von einem Administrator wiederhergestellt werden. Meinst du mit 'Diskussionsbeitrag' die Löschdiskussion, die ich oben verlinkt habe, oder was anderes? --Achim (talk) 17:19, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

@Achim, Its quite funny how you can so confidently say that I didn't shoot this image myself. What the hell are you talking about?. I DID. Not only did I shoot it with an android phone. I'm even in one of the first photos where I took a selfie with Alex Okoroji and her manager Victoria Nkong at the same event and I can send you all the images i took so you can look at the file numbers. In fact I will embed them below for proof, so you can look at the file numbers. i just tried but it won't allow me, seems like you blocked me from posting my own photos). Really? Its quite a shame you will just take action without confirmation.If you are wondering why its on the internet, Off course I forwarded the images to her as I used to be her graphic/ web designer & creative assistant. And if you see it on the internet its because I have placed it on her website, I have also used it to design her banners and I have no problem with her or other people using it either.. I am the original photographer, and I already gave commons a free license. I'm not sure what other permission I need to give myself to use an image I took, on her own namespace. Kwamzy, I'm sorry, of cause there's no problem if you are the photographer indeed. But every month we get thousands of uploads of 'illegal' images so we take precautionary measures to get rid of them. If an image is uploaded that has no EXIF data and is in use somewhere on the web we assume that the uploader is not the photographer and in most cases that assumption is right. So I suggest the following: If you agree I restore File:Alex at Launch.jpg temporarily and within one week (usual term here) you replace it with its original version that carries EXIF metadata. Edit: If your photo is cropped (cut off) from a larger one that one should be uploaded replacing the existing one, and afterwards it will be replaced again by the cropped one (you intended to use) so it's kept as a proof. --Achim (talk) 15:22, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Category:Sennar

Hallo Achim, die Kategorie kann gelöscht werden, da es die category:Sannar gibt, die genau die gleiche Stadt behandelt. Daher hab ich die Kategorie Sennar auch aus der Kategorie "populated places in Sudan" gelöscht. Weißt du, wie man die Kategorie zur Löschung vorschlagen kann? Hallo Grullab, ich habe die Kat nicht gelöscht, weil sie a) einen alternativen Namen und keine Falschschreibung darstellt und b) diese Kat von anderen Wikis aus verlinkt sein könnte (müsste man erstmal durchsuchen), deren Links dann ins Leere zeigen würden. Screwdriver bits

As you have decided to remove all the screwdriver bit files from "Category:Photographs taken of Screwdriver bits on 2016-11-02" can you please restore the "{{taken on|" template to all these files as they were originally categorized. This is a requested by the original up loader, User:Frank C. Müller, of these images. I fail to see what objection you had to this category in the first place so please explain Kolforn (talk) 10:43, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Kategorie Löschung

Hallo Achim55. Ich wollte Dir nur mitteilen, dass es schade ist, dass Du die leeren Kategorien (z.B. Category:Schnellmontagebrücke (Berlin-Marzahn) oder Category:Kleingartenanlage Wallstraße (Berlin-Kaulsdorf) oder Category:Wolfsburger Weg (Berlin-Mariendorf)) löscht, weil wir die dann alle wieder mühsam zusammen suchen und neu einstellen müssen, es fehlen ja nur die Fotos in den Kategorien. Die leeren Kategorien waren als Anregung gedacht, dafür noch Fotos zu machen. Gruß OTFW (talk) 16:42, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Hallo OTFW, das kann ich verstehen, aber das ist eigentlich nicht Sinn der Sache, da gabs auch mal eine Disk dazu, find ich aber im Augenblick nicht wieder. Erstens dürfen hier auf Commons leere Kategorien grundsätzlich immer gelöscht werden (Ausnahme: spezielle Tags), zweitens ist es nicht sinnvoll, für die Straßen der deutschen/europäischen/... Großstädte Millionen von leeren Kategorien anzulegen. 'Als Anregung gedacht' kann ich zwar nachvollziehen, aber da wäre m. E. ne Galerie-Seite mit ner strukturierten oder alphabetischen (oder beides) Liste, die dann eben blaue oder rote Kategorielinks enthält, sinnvoller. Oder so, wie das z. B. für Thüringen gemacht wurde, auf der deutschen wp ne Liste unbebilderter Orte/Straßen/Objekte/wasauchimmer anlegen. Außerdem ist ja unlängst der "Bilderwunsch"-Mechanismus etwas überarbeitet worden, damit lässt sich in Artikeln auf der deutschen wp gut darauf hinweisen, dass es dort noch keine Bilder gibt, schließlich ist ja das primäre Ziel von Commons, die Artikel in den diversen wp-Projekten zu bebildern.

Für den Fall, dass zu erwarten ist, dass in absehbarer Zeit Bilder/Medien in eine leere Kategorie reinkommen (wenn z. B. an Stolpersteinen gearbeitet wird, oder wenn WLM- oder andere Projekte angeschoben werden), dann ist {{Prospective category}} angesagt, dann wissen alle Bescheid. Außerdem gibt's noch das Baustellen-Schild {{CatDevelop}}. Diese Tags verhindern normalerweise die Löschung, sind aber andererseits auch kein Freibrief, denn eine Kategoriebaustelle, die 2 Jahre dauert, glaubt eh keiner.

Ich kann dir also leider nicht garantieren, dass die von dir angelegten Leerkategorien erhalten bleiben, aber ich will sie erstmal vorübergehend ausklammern, aber längerfristig werden sie wohl nicht als 'Kategorien auf Verdacht' zu halten sein. Gruß, --Achim (talk) 18:42, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

A.s.jones, the problem is: If you didn't shoot the photo yourself, someone else did so and then that person owns the copyright. There are 2 possible solutions for keeping the image: a) the photographer gives a permission (via Commons:OTRS procedure) or b) on the web page the image came from it is tagged with a free license like CC-BY-SA (see en:Creative Commons license and https://creativecommons.org/licenses/). --Achim (talk) 17:32, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Conversion to formal deletion request (Commons:Categories for discussion/2017/01/Category:Taken with Nikon D5100 and AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR)

Can you explain how I could "formally" convert this into a deletion request (for listing at Category:Non-media deletion requests)?

Commons:Categories for discussion says "Deletion requests for categories are also found in Category:Non-media deletion requests. These should be listed here as well.".

Ubcule, just do a normal DR on the category page (no need for removal of the cfd request). Listing on Category:Non-media deletion requests is subsequently done automatically per analysis of the namespace of the page to be deleted. --Achim (talk) 15:12, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks; I did that, but the fact there appears to be no automated way of doing it, and the fact that some of the given steps appeared not to work properly when done with a category (rather than a file)- I corrected these by hand- suggests that it wasn't intended to be done in the first place.

Ubcule, everything is fine. I guess you haven't activated AjaxQuickDelete on your Preferences/Gadgets/Maintenance tools. It's much easier to create a DR using that gadget: Just 1 click at the left, entering a rationale, anything else runs automagically. --Achim (talk) 16:12, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

No, I'm using AjaxQuickDelete already; it offers "Nominate for deletion" on regular image pages, but on a category page that's missing; there's only "Nominate category for discussion". Ubcule (talk) 16:28, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Achim55, I noticed you added MRSaleem as a false positive. I thought I'd elaborate on why I think they're at least likely to be related:

Same IP range and machine as confirmed socks;
Same areas of interest:
- MRSaleem uploaded File:Sheikh Hamza Ahmed receiving the 2016 Ahmad-Ul-Bukhari award.jpg with Category:Muslim Scholars and Anas647, for example, uploaded File:Sheikh Aboobacker.jpg with Category:Muslim Scholars (both images had the category renamed to Category:Islamic scholars by RussBot - i.e., if two different users, both use defunct category name);
- MRSaleem has primarily edited wikidata (a relatively obscure WMF project where Aboobackeramani has been concentrating), including d:Q23839135, which was edited five times by AboobackerAmaniOfficial;
- MRSaleem uploaded File:Sheikh Hamza Ahmed receiving the 2016 Ahmad-Ul-Bukhari award.jpg, added to ml:ചിത്താരി ഹംസ മുസ്ലിയാർ (created and heavily edited by AboobackerAmaniOfficial);
- MRSaleem uploaded File:New block for Al-Maqar Dawa college and Public library at Darul Aman campus.jpg, added to ml:അൽ മഖർ (also created and heavily edited by AboobackerAmaniOfficial )

elcobbola, danke für Deine Erläuterungen! Zwei Dinge haben mich bewogen: Erstens gibt es eine Reihe unterschiedlicher Personen, die 'Aboobacker' im Namen tragen, ich bin mir da nicht einmal sicher, ob das auf en:wp allen, die geblockt haben, bewusst war. So sind nicht automatisch alle, die an irgendeinem der Aboobacker herumeditiert haben, verdächtig. Und zweitens haben die Sockpuppets ja so gut wie ausschließlich nur Beiträge, die sich auf den Sockmaster Aboobacker beziehen, bearbeitet. Die beiden, die ich als false betrachtet habe, haben eben auch etliches andere editiert, und mir schien es, als hätten sie unseren Amani halt auch mal mit bearbeitet. Kazan Cathedral

I'm just amuzed why you deleted my newly created directory "Kazan Cathedral exterior details". Saint Petersburg's Kazan Cathedral is among the most popular objects for fotographers from the whole world and many details of this cathedral are photographed very often so the special directory for details is strictly needed. Meanwhile the directories "Kazan Cathedral" and "Kazan Cathedral exteriors" have the same meaning for uploaders so these two directories are full of similar views of the cathedral, so the "Kazan Cathedral exteriors" directory is not useful at all. Believe me as a native of Saint Petersburg. I think you are not a kind of specialist in St.P. architecture so let me do my job and please don't be so quick in your decisions. Екатерина, you are right, but there are very many categories of buildings, that have this exterior/interior scheme, so it is better to create one or more new categories Category:Kazan Cathedral exterior details or Category:Details of Kazan Cathedral exterior (or more special categories if needed) as a subcategory/subcategories of Category:Kazan Cathedral exterior. Thanks. But let me say that "there are very many" something doesn't always mean that something is useful or works good. "Interior" category mostly works perfect, but "exterior" isn't. As I said many uploaders can't understand the difference between the main category and the exterior category and finally we have hundreds of same pics in both. Löschung Greding Kalkinterrterrassen

Mev, ich habe kein Interesse daran, dass das Bild gelöscht wird, ganz im Gegenteil. Das Problem hier auf Commons (und den Wikipedias allgemein) ist, dass unsere Accounts anonym sind. Stell dir mal fiktiv vor, es gäbe einen Profifotografen z. B. "Hugendubelfoto" mit einer Website. Ich bin nicht dieser Mensch, aber ich könnte jetzt einfach einen Benutzer "Hugendubelfoto" anlegen, mir ein Foto von seiner Webseite holen und auf Commons hochladen. Jetzt kann niemand sehen, ob das Foto hier "legal" hochgeladen wurde, oder nicht. Bei deinem Foto liegt das Problem nur darin, dass die Lizenzinformationen widersprüchlich sind: Auf deiner Website steht "Copyright © 2017 Mev´s Buidl Galerie. Alle Rechte vorbehalten.", und hier steht bei deinem hochgeladenen Foto "CC-BY-SA-4.0" Das Problem kann auf zwei Arten gelöst werden: a) Du schreibst auf deiner Website an eben dieses Foto irgendwie auch ein "CC-BY-SA-4.0" dran, oder b) das sog. OTRS-Verfahren wird benutzt, siehe Commons:OTRS/de und die Commons:E-Mail-Vorlagen, "Einverständniserklärung (Rechte-Inhaber)" per E-Mail an permissions-commons-de@wikimedia.org. Tut mir leid, dass das so umständlich ist, aber wir müssen jeden Monat viele Hunderte "illegal" hochgeladener Bilder und Videos löschen. Bei diesem Bild vermute ich Commons:LL. Die erste Version hatte ich am 18. Januar gelöscht. Auf Flickr wurde es am 8. Februar hochgeladen und am gleichen Tag von einem anderen (?) user auf commons eingefügt. Da ich mich nach einem halben Jahr nicht mehr an den Inhalt des alten Bildes erinnern kann, möchte ich sie einsehen. Wenn ich die alte Version wiederherstelle, bleibt dann die neuere erhalten? Oder erst umbenennen und dann wiederherstellen? Einen schönen Sonntag wünscht Dir noch Hystrix (talk) 09:33, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

Moin Hystrix, die Kleinigkeit war mir nur aufgefallen, weil du (wahrscheinlich ohne es zu merken) auf dieser Seite mitgearbeitet hast, auf der JuTa und ich schon Tausende von Kategorien gelöscht oder anderweitig bearbeitet haben. - Zu deiner Frage: Direkt wiederherstellen muss man eigentlich nicht unbedingt, denn wenn du auf Special:Undelete/File:Michel Qissi.jpg unten unter Dateiversionen auf das Datum klickst, siehst du das gelöschte Bild. Und wenn du darüber unter Versionen auf das Datum und dann auf Vorschau zeigen klickst, siehst du den Inhalt der Seite selbst.
