User talk:Accipiter
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

[edit]Many thanks for confirming the ID of the Cape Vultures. It's something I really should have known - I lived under them for 15 months - but it was a jolly long time ago! JackyR 00:27, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Siebrand 21:09, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I have forgotten the license. I have added it now, I hope it's ok. Greetings, -Accipiter 20:02, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:36, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks & a further question
[edit]Thanks for the identification of Larus occidentalis. Perhaps you can make a similar identification for these two:
Thanks in advance. - Jmabel ! talk 23:08, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Jmabel, without a look on the upper side this is very difficult. Do you have a picture which shows anything of the upper side, or do you remember the color of the upper side of wings or back? Were they grey or black? Was anything black on the primaries? Yours, --Accipiter (talk) 21:05, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Gruß, --Accipiter (talk) 23:29, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
- Vielen Dank! Gruß, --4028mdk09 (talk) 05:12, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Wrong wisent
[edit]Hi Accipiter.
- Many thanks for your correction, the File:Bison bonasus européen wisent MNHN.jpg is now renamed as a Syncerus caffer. It is my mistake, but I'm affraid it is the mistake of the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris too, because of the wrong plate on the pedestal of this skeleton.
- I'm trying now to delist this picture from the labelled "valued image" list for the same reason (when done, I'll re-nominate it in the relevant category, because it is the best picture of an african buffalos skull IMO.)
- Anyway, thanks again.--Jebulon (talk) 18:03, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Standort gesucht
[edit]Hallo Accipiter
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Accipiter. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Accipiter~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
