Deletion guidelines noutras linguas:

  3. Procedemento de borrado normal: If there may be the need for discussion (which is in many cases the recomended way especially if you are new to Commons and and have concerns about licensing issues), the file/page should be listed as a deletion request. In any case involving doubt, use deletion request instead of asking for speedy deletion. Please tag the image in those cases with {{Delete}} and please don't forget to give a reason below the tag and please also don't forget to add the image at Commons:Deletion requests as otherwise nobody will notice that there is need for a discussion.
  4. Imaxes duplicadas: Examples of "duplicate" files include exact copies of images due to double upload, or the same image in another resolution. In case of doubt list the file at deletion requests. If the file is the same file type and you're sure that it is the same tag it with {{duplicate|Image:example.jpg}} and give for the parameter (Image:example.jpg) the file which can replace this duplicate file. You have to orphan the file on all Wikimedia projects using CheckUsage. After doing so Commons administrators can safely delete the file.

En todos os casos considere utilizar CheckUsage para comprobar onde se está usando a imaxe antes de borrala.

Detailed guidelines

[edit]

Below the single deletion guidelines for each of the for deletion cases is outlined more in detail.

Missing information

[edit]

Images missing source or licensing information should be tagged {{subst:nsd}} (no/missing source, tagged by date) or {{subst:nld}} (no/incomplete licensing information, tagged by date). Please notify the uploader that you have tagged the image as well. After this they will have 7 days to fix the information. If it is not fixed after a week, the file is then eligible for deletion. When the file is fixed, the tag should be removed.

It is not necessary to list such images for deletion or speedy deletion. Because they are tagged by date, an administrator can automatically see which ones are eligible for deletion by navigating Category:Unknown.

Speedy deletion

[edit]

There are certain instances when a file needs to be speedy deleted and under which an administrator can delete pages, images and other files "on sight".

Please always remember: Before deleting images in speedy deletion, make sure that the user has placed it there in accordance with these deletion guidelines. If not, please modify the template, moving it off of this page. Always check the file history to determine that the proper image description has not been vandalised.

A file in Candidates for speedy deletion can be speedy deleted under the following circumstances:

  • Tagged for unknown source and/or copyright status for more than a week.
  • Corrupted; infected by a virus, etc. (if in doubt, list it below as an unknown format).
  • Has previously been deleted under Commons deletion guidelines.
  • Duplicate of another file here and is not in use on any project and is not a Wikimedia logo. Note: Don't delete a file just because it is tagged duplicate!
  • Licensed under a noncommercial or permission-only license

A page can be deleted if it is:

  • Empty and has no significant history.
  • A clear copyright violation.
  • Patent nonsense, a test or vandalism.
  • A user page or subpage whose deletion has been requested by the user.
  • The user talk page of an IP address where the content is no longer relevant.
  • The result of a copy-and-paste page move, and must be deleted temporarily to merge histories.
  • A redirect over which another page must be moved.
  • A redirect to a nonexistent page.
  • A category with no content or containing only a parent category.

Note that a media file or article is not speedy deletion candidate in the following cases:

Speedy deletions can be tagged with the following, based on their nature:

  • {{Copyvio}} for obvious copyright violations
  • {{Badname}} for files you uploaded with incorrect names, and are unused

An administrator will delete the file/page in due time. If you disagree with deletion of a particular, please explain on its talk page why. Always make sure that all local links to a file or page are corrected and updated before deletion. The files/pages listed for speedy deletion are included automatically in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion by attaching the {{Speedydelete}} template to the page.

When speedy-deleting files, it is suggested but not required to run CheckUsage in order to fix uses on Wikimedia projects. Alternatively you can overwrite the image with Image:Cross.png or Image:Cross.jpg, and provide a note on the image description page about the deletion and delete the crossed page after a while. However due to the nature of speedy delete you can skip that but please be aware that the probability that this file will be reuploaded again by someone is higher if doing so and be also aware that this will cause bad "image holes" in articles that might can cause not so nice rants from suprised people that were not aware of the blatant problem with that file.

Regular deletion

[edit]

A file or page can be listed for deletion on Commons:Deletion requests in the following cases:

  • The file/page has an unknown copyright status.
  • The file/page violates the licensing guidelines.
  • The file/page has an incorrect name, and a file/page with a correct name exists (Also: consider a redirect).
  • The content of the file/page cannot be determined (see also Commons:Images missing information).
  • The page is a talk page of already deleted page or file.
  • The file has a low image quality/resolution (e.g. out of focus, too small).
  • The file/page is redundant through a better but not identical one.
  • The file is enormous and replaced by a much smaller file which contains all of the useful information.
  • The file/page is not potentially usable by any current or future Wikimedia project (e.g. art by unknown artist).

The file/page is listed for deletion by adding {{Delete}} template and listing the page on Commons:Deletion requests. The file/page may be deleted on decision by an admin if there were good reasons given in the debate for doing so. Always make sure that all local links to a file or page are corrected and updated before deletion. When deleting a file from deletion requests, it is good practice to run CheckUsage and orphan the usage of that file. More information can be found on Commons:Deletion requests, and the files/pages listed for deletion are included in the Category:Deletion requests.

[edit]

It is not possible for us to detect all copyright violations. However, we can detect a great number of them by simply having a look around, especially in Special:Newimages, and watching for tell-tale signs. Here is a list of signs of probable copyright violations:

Fotografías de fotógrafos profesionais
Few of these grant free licenses over their images. Consider contacting the photographer, if possible using the, if somebody posts a vague claim to be the photographer, or of having obtained authorization.
In the rare event that a professional photographer allows reproduction of his/her works, make sure he/she has licensed them under a free license (i.e. not "noncommercial" or "Wikipedia only") and post the permission to permissions@wikimedia.org.
Fotografías de celebridades, bandas de rock, etc.
Not all such photos are copyright violations, but they often are, and thus they warrant special scrutiny. Signs of probable violations:
  • "Staged" photographs, where the celebrities obviously pose for the photographer. Almost always, such people do not pose for amateur photographers; they pose for (semi-)professionals, who demand payment for their works and seldom put them under free licenses.
  • Low-resolution pictures. Probably taken from a web site; photographers have access to better content.
It is however possible for amateurs to take photographs of celebrities. Examples include concerts, public appearances, etc.; this often needs chance. But, generally, the people will then explain how and where they took the photograph, and will provide some high-resolution shot.
Fotografías feitas desde ángulos non accesibles ao público
Generally, only professional crews have access to "press only" locations offering a good vantage point on the starting lines of races, etc.
Miniaturas -thumbnails- (fotografías de moi baixa resolución)
These are a tell-tale sign that the image has been downloaded from a web site.
Licenzas sospeitosas
Very few images are licensed under the GNU GPL or other free software license. Some people apparently choose a random free license to upload copyrighted content.
Arte moderno
Paintings, sculptures, and other works of art are copyrighted by their author (at least, in most jurisdictions). Photographs of such items can thus be covered by copyright of the artist (depending on the jurisdiction and the location of the item).
Usuarios pouco fiables
Users repeatedly uploading copyrighted stuff under wrong licenses, especially after being warned about it, or lying (say, claiming they took the photo themselves whereas the photo is evidently from somebody else), can be assumed to act in bad faith.
