User:Crouch, Swale/Districts
Districts that we have but Wikipedia doesn't are Birmingham, Coventry, Newcastle upon Tyne, Sheffield, Middlesbrough, Peterborough, Southend-on-Sea, Slough, Warrington, York, Cheltenham, Chesterfield, Christchurch, Corby, Gloucester, Northampton, Oxford, Redditch and Worcester.
Questions; should we have separate cats, keeping in mind that we aren't an encyclopedia. If the category contains 5 or more pages that aren't part of the settlement then that should probably be an automatic keep but if there are just 1 or 2 pages in addition to the main settlement then that might be questionable. w:WP:UKDISTRICTS contains some discussion and does list examples or when they generally don't need to be split but we have different inclusion criteria than there. Probably the most important one is if it contains separate settlements (note that size isn't particually relevant). Something that has been done with many districts is to categorize the unparished area under the main settlement and the parishes under the districts. This works well with Carlisle or Corby but is more complicated with Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Maps may add some wight but could be put in like Category:Maps of Coventry. Please discuss on talk! Old discussions are at User talk:Skinsmoke and User talk:Nilfanion.
Birmingham, contains 1 parish and Sutton Coldfield which is unparished but kind of a separate town. New Frankley in Birmingham is just part of Birmingham. Possible merge.
Coventry, contains 2 parishes which are on the outskirts of the settlement, maybe OK.
Newcastle upon Tyne, contains 6 parishes, is complex but should be kept as it contains over 5 pages (whichever way it is done) see CFD.
Sheffield, contains 3 parishes, Bradfield and Stocksbridge are mainly rural but Ecclesfield is part of Sheffield.
Middlesbrough, contains 2 parishes which are somewhat separate.
Peterborough, contains 29 parishes, most of which are separate, clear keep but might need to be checked.
Southend-on-Sea, contains only 1 parish which is a town, Eastwood is also a town so could be moved to borough cat like Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham. Would that cause problems with situations where a parish town like Harwich contains another town (Dovercourt) but both are in towns and villages even though Dovercourt is in Harwich.
Slough, contains 3 parishes, 2 of which are part of the town, needs to be looked at.
Warrington, contains 18 parishes, enough are probably outside the town. Probably needs to be checked.
York, contains 31 parishes, plenty of which are rural but might need to be checked.
Cheltenham, contains 5 parishes, which are to a greater or lesser extent part of Cheltenham. Needs to be discussed.
Chesterfield, contains 2 separate parishes, maybe OK.
Christchurch, contains 2 separate parishes, maybe OK.
Corby, contains 7 parishes, all of which are separate, clear keep.
Gloucester, contains only 1 parish which is an outer suburb, maybe merge.
Northampton, contains 7 parishes but they are mainly outer suburbs.
Oxford, contains 4 outer suburban parishes.
Redditch, contains just 1 separate parish.
Worcester, contains 2 suburban parishes, possible merge.
