- How to?
Why does {{Reproduction|1={{technique|chromolithograph}}|2={{watercolours}}}}
work, while {{Reproduction|1={{chromolithograph}}|2={{watercolours}}}} or even {{Reproduction|1=chromolithograph|2=watercolours}} does not? --PigeonIP (talk) 19:29, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
- Example
- reproduction: chromolithograph , original: watercolor
- reproduction: template:chromolithograph, original: watercolor
- reproduction: chromolithograph , original: watercolor
- There's no {{Chromolithograph}} template, while there is a {{Watercolours}} template (a redirection to {{Watercolor}}).
{{Technique|chromolithograph}}
works because there is a {{Technique}} template, for which 'chromolithograph' is a valid value. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 23:41, 16 January 2013 (UTC)- so, to use the {{Reproduction}}-Template you have to use {{Technique}} with parameters designed for {{Technique}}-parameters? Is there a reason for that? Wouldn't it be better to integrate {{Technique}} into {{Reproduction}}? To use it like {{Reproduction|1=chromolithograph|2=watercolours}} instead of {{Reproduction|1={{technique|chromolithograph}}|2={{technique|watercolours}}}}? --PigeonIP (talk) 09:17, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
- I have changed the template so that
{{reproduction|watercolor|{{technique|oil|canvas}} }}
gives: "reproduction: watercolor , original: oil on canvas ".- In German with Capitals at the beginning:Öl,Leinwand.––Oursana (talk) 20:10, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- It is indeed more concise. The downside is that it does not add files to Category:Files with unrecognized term in template:technique. Beside, I think it should be possible to add other things in the template like the date of the original versus that of the reproduction. I am not sure about the best way to do it. --Zolo (talk) 09:22, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. The addition of other informations may be worth the consideration. My only concerns are about too much information/over-determination. I am using {{Reproduction}} within the
|medium=
-parameter of {{Artwork}}. The Artwork-Template has other parameters likenotes
,source
andother_versions
that could provide similar informations. The question is: do they do? --PigeonIP (talk) 10:15, 18 January 2013 (UTC)- It seems that pretty few people have used this template yet. In some cases it has been used in the source field (just |source={{reproduction}}, which does not make much sense). One could easily imagine it in other fields, but it would require lengthy parameter name like "reroduction date", or alternatively, put everything in the current unnamed parameters. --Zolo (talk) 17:55, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
