Wording

[edit]

{{Editprotected}} Can the wording of this template be changed to "70 years or fewer" rather than the incorrect "70 years of less"? Thanks. — Bellhalla (talk) 14:57, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for autotranslation

[edit]

Hey, is someone please able to autotranslate this template? The only thing that has to be done is to replace the content with {{autotranslate|base=PD-old-70}} {{{category|{{#ifeq:{{NAMESPACE}}|File|[[Category:Author died more than 70 years ago public domain images|{{PAGENAME}}]]}}}}} <noinclude>{{Incat|Author died more than 70 years ago public domain images}} {{documentation}}. And, that's it. Thank you. --The Evil IP address (talk) 18:43, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PD-old

[edit]

The description says this template isn't redundant to {{PD-old}} and it "specifically gives the reason why the image is PD". However, the wording of this template conveys the exact meaning of what PD-old says, without further elaboration. So how exactly is this template different from {{PD-old}}? Spellcast (talk) 14:02, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{PD-old}} also talks about the image being public domain in the US for some non-specified reason. That the life+70 years term has expired isn't sufficient for public domain status there. Peter Alberti (talk) 15:36, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Extra parameter

[edit]

This template is not enough to grants the Four Freedoms (it's usually explains why the file is in public domain in the source country, but not at the US; other parameter should be required to explain it). Erasmus 15:07, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Russia

[edit]

{{Editprotected}} The en:Great Patriotic War years + 70 have come. Plz, add to notes that generally Russia has 70 years, but in some cases copyright terms extended to 74 years. Alex Spade (talk) 17:23, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Less v. fewer

[edit]

{{Editprotected}}

This is (oddly) an exact inversion of the edit request a few years back, but I'm fairly sure this should be "... life of the author plus 70 years or less." Periods of time almost invariably use "less"; there are some exceptions, but they're rare. See, eg, this note from OUP, or this one from Merriam-Webster.

The same probably applies to a number of other templates - if people are happy with this change, I'll dig around and find the others needing fixed. Shimgray (talk) 17:54, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense after reading the examples in the links provided. Language is neat. Thanks. :) Killiondude (talk) 17:31, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I've done the others (at least as far as I can find them); not sure why this was the only protected one. Shimgray (talk) 20:53, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Getting to translate documentation

[edit]

I'd like to translate documentation of the template, but the {{TemplateBox}} parameter usage-notes does not allow adding the -et suffix to it, which means that there has to be a different way of going about this. Documentation about this seems to be scarse. -Mardus (talk) 03:51, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wording

[edit]

The template says "may not be in the public domain". Which is more ambiguous than "might be". ~ R.T.G 18:25, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request

[edit]

{{Edit request}} I am requesting that the final sentence of this template be revised slightly so that it does not use the passive voice. It currently reads, "This file has been identified as being free of known restrictions under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights." This implies that the file has somehow been reviewed by an authority on the matter, which is almost never the case. I'd like to request that it be reworded thus: "The uploader or another editor has identified this file as being free of known restrictions..." etc. This version uses the active voice and gives the public a better idea of who made the decision. Please advise is such a rewording should be run through a community discussion somewhere first. Thanks! KDS4444 (talk) 14:04, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

KDS4444, you are talking about Template:Cc-pd-mark-footer template. I am not objecting to your proposal, but that phrase is used on 3,211,706 pages (all PD templates) and has been translated to so many languages, that I think we need a wider consensus that the change is necessary. Please propose it at Commons:Village pump/Proposals. --Jarekt (talk) 15:12, 3 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Jarekt and KDS4444: If so then that sentence should be translated on translatewiki.net: [1]. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:14, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I tried. KDS4444 (talk) 04:32, 18 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
