Adding an entry for the construction number

Hi!
I thought, it could be good to add an entry for the construction number of the aircraft. Such an entry could be usefull, for example to track the latest operator of the airframe. Any thoughts? abf «Cabale!» 09:37, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

New version of the template

There seem to be a nice alternative version of this template, created by user:Zolo, Template:Infobox aircraft image/sandbox. It is build as an extension of {{Information}} with a few fields added, so it benefits from few hundred translations of the field names. Translations of the additional field names can be found here. See File:FA-18 Hornet breaking sound barrier (7 July 1999).jpg for example of the new template. Are there any objections about replacing current template with Template:Infobox aircraft image/sandbox? --Jarekt (talk) 13:23, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

I have moved the sandbox code to the main template. Actually the template already made use of {{Information}} internationalization messages, but the code was rather complicated, with parts of it no longer used. Using {{tl|information directly should make it more maintainable.

There are two other small changes:

• "imageloc" parameter now adds {{City}} by default to help with links / localization
• in: [[:Category:Aircraft by registration|{{{aircraftid-label|Identification}}}]]</td><td> [[:Category:{{#if:{{{aircraftid|}}}|{{#ifexist:Category:{{{aircraftid}}} (aircraft)|{{{aircraftid}}} (aircraft)|Aircraft by registration}}|Aircraft by registration}}|{{{aircraftid}}}]]. I have removed the link to Category:Aircraft by registration. It found that really misleading, as the link seems to imply we will find that specific registration). A link Category:Aircraft by registration is provided in the field header, so there is no use in sometimes having it inside the field as well. --Zolo (talk) 07:07, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Automatically adding images to category Aircraft by Registration

It would be cool to have an image be automatically added to its registration category based on the value of the registration field. However, it may not be accepted in wikimedia commons to add dynamically-generated category names, and there may some downsides to this, specifically those which can arise from differences in use between the aircraftreg field, and the aircraft registration category. What are the suggestions for this?

Sorry to bring this up, but the autocat-function causes a lot of confusion in Category:Re-used aircraft registrations. This generated a lot of redundancies for those aircraft pictures that use the infobox (see Category:D-ABFC_(aircraft) and category:D-ABFC (Airbus A320). I spent a lot of effort already in fixing most of the "one registration vs two aircraft" problem, assigning each pic to the appropriate (new) cat.

In general I see no added value to this function as there are much more aircraft pics without the infobox and additioanlly plenty of users aleady categorizing aircraft pics manually.

This problem could probably be fixed with the above mentiones "nocat", but it does not work here as desired for the existing infoboxes.

Btw: The template documentation caused the template itself to be categorized to category:OH-LEI (aircraft)

All in all, from my point of view there is more damage then benefit from this change. I thus reverted it, hoping that a futher change in code can fix the problem. Thanks. -- Wo st 01 (talk / cont) 16:21, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

Commenting six years after the above... Does anyone know the current status of the auto-categorization logic? Is the revert action mentioned immediately above still in effect? Also, I'm wondering about that red-linked "Re-used aircraft registrations" category. The fact that it doesn't exist anymore leaves me even more confused. How do we handle multiple aircraft with this ?

example : File:Bombardier Dash 8-Q402, Lufthansa Regional (Augsburg Airways) JP7439824.jpg . I have all the deetails for the background aircraft on ground. Can this template cater for it ? Rcbutcher (talk) 15:30, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Route Option

I have a feature request to have a line in the table to specify the route the aircraft was taking.
