[edit]Wikimedia Commons does not accept copyrighted media is wrong, Wikimedia Commons accepts copyrighted media with suitable licenses. --Habakuk 09:10, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Category:Problem tags
[edit]This should be added to Category:Problem tags inside noinclude tags. --Pmsyyz 17:38, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Alpha sort in category
[edit]This template need to be alphabetically sorted in the Templates category. Please add "|Fair Use" to "Category:Problem Tags" --Epolk 19:18, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. Done. — Richie 22:34, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Why fair use is acceptable in the english wikipedia but not here?
[edit]I dont understund, why I can upload in english wiki images with logo template, but here I can`t... --Rtz 11:30, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- Files on commons must be useful for many wikipedias, but the fair use policy is different in the countries. See Commons:Licensing#Material under the fair use clause is not allowed on the Commons. --GeorgHH 21:36, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Trademarks
[edit]The template starts with the sentence "This media is copyrighted or shows a registered trademark" suggesting copyrighted or trademarked works would be speedily deleted. This is quite wrong. Commons has lots of copyrighted works, they are simply licensed for free distribution. Secondly, trademarks are allowed in Commons, only licensing matters. For example the 3M logo is simply the characters "3M" in some typeface and definitely cannot be copyrighted. Any reference to trademarks in this template should be removed. --Hautala 19:28, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Ping. --Hautala 11:09, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- I noticed this, too, and you are quite right. The problem is that 90% of the time when this template is used the uploader has not claimed fair use at all. It's often used as a variant to the Copyvio template. Sometimes, the user who has added the template has done so as he/she thinks that's how the uploader would probably justify the copyvio. I'd like to consider a total re-write, not just a tweak. Not much time just at the moment, though --MichaelMaggs 07:43, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- Now fixed. --MichaelMaggs 20:26, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Template protection
[edit]Please at least semi-block this important speedy deletion template, I'd even suggest a full protection. --Denniss (talk) 00:18, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Please remove this template from Category:License tags non-free
[edit]Fair use is not a license. This template is not a license tag any more than Copyvio is. It is strictly a problem tag, and it's clearly out of place among the other templates in Category:License tags non-free. Thanks, —LX (talk, contribs) 21:30, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Who says, "fair use"? The template doesn't know ...
[edit]Editprotected The tag asserting fair use may not have been applied by the uploader.
- and the uploader asserts that the usage of this file is fair use
should read:
- and usage of this file is asserted to be fair use
or something like that. Mdotley (talk) 19:44, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
- This tag should only be used by uploaders through the Upload Form -- as it is a speedy deletion template, not an actual statement of why we can use it under fair use, it shouldn't be added by people other than (confused) uploaders. I've removed the Editprotected, feel free to re-add it if you disagree. JesseW (talk) 02:25, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Now I am confused. You say this is a speedy deletion tag that should only be used by uploaders. But why would an uploader tag their own file for speedy deletion? Why would the system allow such an upload to go through, rather than blocking it and displaying an appropriate message to the uploader? Brianjd (talk) 15:01, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

overcategorisation
[edit]This template currently places files in both Category:Copyright violations and Category:Other speedy deletions. Please fix this by replacing
}}<includeonly>{}</includeonly><noinclude>
with
|category=<includeonly>{}}}</includeonly><noinclude>
. Thanks, FDMS 4 22:58, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

- Please specify what you want to change, and why it is necessary. Also, your code will break the template:
X-To-DR-RegExp
's default value will not be something similar to your intention (/\{\{\s*(?:Template:)?(Fair use?
instead of full regex). Feel free to re-add Edit request if desired. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh Name me 01:52, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

. One should not be able to overridd the categorization. I found a file that had used Non-free book cover for years not having been deleted since categorization didn't show that it was non-free. Jonteemil (talk) 21:25, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
