To apply this template to a file, first add a new section “Disputed” to the talk page, describing the dispute. Add {{disputed coat of arms|why}} to the top of the disputed coat of arms (replacing "why" with your reason). If the talk page section name is different from “Disputed” (as recommended), then include a link to the section of the talk page discussing the dispute, use {{disputed coat of arms|why|section=talk page section name}}.

If the description of the file seems to be wrong or not to match the content of the file please use {{Fact disputed}}.

Disputed / something missing:

  • {{Clarify}} – an in-line template
  • {{Lacking insignia source}}insignia
  • {{References missing}}generally for files where the description or depiction needs references
  • {{Datasource missing}}for own diagrams and maps visualizing data that needs references
  • {{No source since}}deletion warning for missing essential source information
  • {{Sourcefield}} - produces a warning that a file appears to have an invalid entry in its "Source" parameter; for use on user talk pages, not file pages; less serious than the {{No source since}} warning; does not threaten deletion

Fictional (consciously):

  • {{Fake sports logo}} – for potentially serious confusion
  • {{Fictional}} – proposed insignia ("flag", "sign", "seal", "CoA", …)
  • {{Fake insignia}} — generic "faked" symbols, to facilitate identification but often not factually accurate to avoid copyright issues.
