Frequently Asked Questions
How many photos can I upload? You can upload as many photos as you want. They should be of good quality to increase the chances of winning.
Can I use programs like Photoshop to edit photos before I upload them?Yes of course. Photos can be retouched using any software. Note that photo retouching or processing should be as natural as possible, as this is a photography competition, not a computer photo processing competition.
What size should the images be?Images should be as large as possible. We value high-resolution images for various purposes. Images below 2 megapixels will not be included in the competition as they lack the possibility to be used in large sizes, especially in printing.
Can I edit Wikipedia myself to add my picture to an article that is not illustrated?Yes, that would be great! Once your photo has been uploaded on Wikimedia Commons, it can easily be used on Wikipedia.
I am not a professional photographer. Can I participate?Yes, please! The contest is open to everyone and all photos, winning or not, serve the community.
The areas are very large. How do I focus on what I need to photograph? The most useful photos are those with wide views and representative of the biotopes. You can also submit photos of representative or rare species (animals, plants, etc.) taken in protected areas but these photos must be properly identified. If you send such photos, you must describe them in detail so that we know that the photo was taken in a nature reserve (and not on someone's balcony).
My device does not include coordinates automatically. What can I do?Although we as a community would love to have the exact location included in the photograph, we understand that this is not always possible. In this case, you need to add the coordinates of the protected part or area itself (which usually coincides with its center).
If I want to compete internationally, how many of my photos can win internationally? No more than two photographs by the same author will be selected in the top 20 internationally. Since the goal is to diversify the winning images and show as many natural monuments from different regions and authors as possible, this year was set this limit.
