Summary
[edit]DescriptionGrantham Canal - geograph.org.uk - 747754.jpg |
English: Grantham Canal This disused canal has become an important recreational resource for the local residents in the villages that line its route between Nottingham and Grantham although it is unnavigable. The Grantham Canal Society have a long term restoration plan and the resurfacing of the towpath along nearly all its route is a major improvement. Because the canal is mainly rural in nature it has became a refuge for wildlife since it was closed to commercial traffic in 1936. The Society, together with British Waterways, has been careful to maintain this in its restoration work. See http://www.granthamcanal.com/index.htm |
