Description The library on the grounds of the former NATO missile station Hombroich houses the estate of the renowned sculptor Erwin Heerich, who is internationally known for his geometrically oriented sculptures, drawings and walk-in sculptures. Heerich had a significant influence on the artistic and architectural appearance of Hombroich, especially through his walk-in sculptures in the Museum Insel Hombroich and other buildings on the rocket station. The estate includes sculptures, models, works on paper, correspondence and Heerich's private library. A digital catalogue raisonné of the works on paper is currently being prepared to make Heerich's oeuvre accessible to the public. The architectural design of the building housing the archive and library reflects Erwin Heerich's aesthetics and philosophy. With clean lines, simple shapes and carefully designed spaces, it creates an atmosphere of calm and concentration that supports the viewing and exploration of the artworks. Today's Museum Insel Hombroich was originally conceived as a military facility and its grounds were transformed into an extraordinary centre for art and culture after the end of the Cold War. Today it houses a variety of buildings designed by renowned architects. These buildings serve as exhibition spaces, studios, workshops, libraries and event venues.
