Hello, during the evaluation of picture for Wiki Science Competition, I had to evaluate a picture that did not show up (the picture was continuously loading). I understood later that this picture had been deleted. Does Montage manage such behaviour properly? Pamputt (talk) 08:48, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
- Not quite yet, we're working on addressing this. You can subscribe to this issue on github if you want to track the feature. For now, you can just skip the file if it does not load. Slaporte (talk) 08:50, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

impossible to save "description" text together with the rest
- This section was archived on a request by: LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:54, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I have seen this happening consistently. When I save a 2nd or 3rd round (not sure about the 1st) the first time I click on "save" (before you can activate, the first creation) whatever I have written in the description just vanishes. it saves everything in a bulk but such text. I have than to re-edit the round, than I finally activate it. It's not a big deal, I simply copy and paste or don't write anything before saving the first time, but I am quite sure it is a bug. I think it occurs on all my computers, but for sure I remember this happening clearly on Firefox for windows 10.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:24, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

The tool does not import decently namefile in Arabic or Greek on xls, in some countries I have a problem to understand the finalist... i have to ask the jurors what they vote to be sure.--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:09, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: the issue is now tracked at https://github.com/hatnote/montage/issues/130. I have marked this section to be archived.
bug with third round
- This section was archived on a request by: LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:40, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
LilyOfTheWest we have a big problem with my current Iran campaign... since yesterday it creates me no usable round... it seems all fine but when jurors try to open it, nothing works! I see 31 imported files in the summary under their name, they see nothing at all!--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:13, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: It's not clear to me why your jurors are not able to vote.
- @Yarl: can you look into this soon?
--LilyOfTheWest (talk) 18:26, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- LilyOfTheWest there are a lot of files with long non-Latin titles (maybe a "buffer" problem?) but this was true also with the other steps. that is the only "difference" i can think about! In any case feel free to recreate it yourself just to see if this changes something. I did it four times with four different combination of OS and browsers, than I gave up. The problems was shared by three different jurors, so it was not "local".--Alexmar983 (talk) 03:15, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
- I saw another additional juror with no photo, I asked around, still frozen... reacreated... still froze. Should be starta again from zero LilyOfTheWest?--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:30, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Yarl: @Slaporte: can you look into this? --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 02:27, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Yarl: was the one who add his name as a juror... but still it wasn't working. Really, should we create it again from zero? it's not a solution but the juror are expert now so they can revote quickly.--Alexmar983 (talk) 08:31, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
@LilyOfTheWest: , @Yarl: @Slaporte: ... if you don't know how to solve it I need a third phase because I cannot understand the name of the file the way they are exported, a need a limited number to understand which is which. Please give me another for iran, we restart...I am losing too much time here.--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:34, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

File does not open on commons because of "?" in title

It's not a big deal (it is not very common) but file as such this one cannot be open because the link does not read the code"%3F" but remains "?", so it opens this error message.--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:30, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
this file also does not open through Montage.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:19, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi @LilyOfTheWest: , @Yarl: @Slaporte: , a juror does not vote and I need to go further. Is it possible to remove it? Or change it with another user?--Alexmar983 (talk) 12:36, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
- ok he voted right yesterday, this remains a theoretical question.--Alexmar983 (talk) 04:11, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: If removing the juror doesn't violate quorum, you should be able to remove the juror. Otherwise, you cannot do that. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:46, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi, LilyOfTheWest, we would like to set up campaign for Wiki Loves Earth 2018 in Latvia. Has anything changed since WLM? --Papuass (talk) 15:53, 28 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Papuass: Not much has changed, though we hope to change things for WLM. ;) User:Atsirlin has stepped up to help with handling WLE requests for Montage. Please give us a couple of days and we will set up your campaign. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:14, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- Papuass, I created a campaign for you. Please, review the instructions and give it a try. I added myself as the second coordinator in case you need help with setting things up. --Alexander (talk) 07:17, 6 June 2018 (UTC)
Rubén_Ojeda, Gnangarra, your campaigns are ready too. Please, review the instructions and let me know if you need help with creating the first round. --Alexander (talk) 00:00, 7 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Atsirlin: after some discussion, we will use Montage fro WLE France too. Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 07:41, 7 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi LilyOfTheWest and Atsirlin. We already finished our first round. Could you create a new round with this category?. Thanks!. --Rubén Ojeda (WMES) (talk) 12:45, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- Rubén Ojeda (WMES), normally, you should just finalize the results of round 1 and create yourself round 2 based on the outcome of the round 1. Is there a reason why you want to do it differently? --Alexander (talk) 13:07, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, because the category is not the same. --Rubén Ojeda (WMES) (talk) 13:42, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
- Rubén Ojeda (WMES), I have created another campaign for you. --Alexander (talk) 07:19, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi LilyOfTheWest and Atsirlin, we would like to create a campaign for Greece (our own tool failed after moving server). Can we have it ASAP? (contest ended last month, jury should be working already). -Geraki TLG 10:40, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi LilyOfTheWest! In the past two year I was very satisfied using Montage for WLM, so I would like to use it also for this first edition of WLE in Italy. The contest is still running, so we will start the jury phase from July 1st. --CristianNX 11:00, 20 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi LilyOfTheWest, could you set up a first round for me for WLE Sweden please. Thanks in advance. /Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 07:43, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi @LilyOfTheWest and Atsirlin: I would like to use Montage this year during jury evaluation on Wiki Loves Earth Moldova. I will be the coordinator and one of the jury members, the other two are Alex Prodan md and Roman Friptuleac. Thank you. Gikü (talk) 12:30, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Problem with Round 2
Dear @Atsirlin and LilyOfTheWest: , today our jurors finished with round 1, but I can't start round 2 due to an error: Multiple rows were found for one_or_none. Could you please help us? Thanks, --CristianNX 11:40, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- Leila, Mahmoud, Stephen, Paweł: I confirm that the problem is there. The full error message reads as
Internal server error: <ExceptionInfo [sqlalchemy.orm.exc.MultipleResultsFound: Multiple rows were found for one_or_none()] (31 frames, last=Callpoint('one_or_none', 2698, 'sqlalchemy.orm.query', '/data/project/montage/www/python/venv/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/sqlalchemy/orm/query.py', 72, ' "Multiple rows were found for one_or_none()")'))>
- Cristian, I have no access to the code of Montage, so I can't really help here. If the developers are unable to fix the problem on a short time scale, one should place the photos selected in round 1 into a separate category and start a new Montage campaign using that category. I can help you to arrange this, if needed (but, of course, I have to know your threshold grade in round 1). --Alexander (talk) 15:09, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- Dear Alexander, thank you for you help. Your solution is good (I was thinking the same). The threshold grade is 6.66, so 687 pictures: you can add them here, thank you very much! Could you please create for me 2 new campaigns (1 for the rating round for this jury and 1 for the final jury, that will be made from other jurors - professional photographers - and will work with the "finalists")? Thank you in advice, --CristianNX 15:56, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Atsirlin: I'm moving the files by myself (using VisualFileChange). I just need the new campaigns on Montage. Thanks. --CristianNX 10:04, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- Or @Atsirlin: or @LilyOfTheWest: , I hope someone can do it today, cause we are in a hurry! :-) --CristianNX 16:00, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

- Cristian, here is your new campaign. I have not created the second one, because you can still try to make it as the second round of the previous one. Should it not work, I will create yet another campaign for you, but I suggest that we don't generate more campaigns than necessary. I apologize for the slow response, but my internet connection is really intermittent these days. It should improve in about a week from now, and I will respond faster. Good luck! --Alexander (talk) 16:02, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

The problem is still there!!! Also with the new campaign with the new category! Please help!--CristianNX 16:53, 12 July 2018 (UTC)- The problem is adding User:Settimioma. Why? --CristianNX 17:14, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for debugging! I suggest that you file a bug report on this. I don't know what else we can do ourselves. --Alexander (talk) 23:00, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
@Atsirlin: Are all the campaigns for WLE 2018 processed? If so, I'd like to activate the template for this section to get archived. (trying to organize the page for new round of messages coming in for WLM 2018). --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:37, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Quorum
- This section was archived on a request by: LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:38, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Alexander, we have a problem at https://tools.wmflabs.org/montage/#/campaign/115-wiki-loves-earth-2018-greece
I had set the quorum at 5 (initially 4). Looking at the number of tasks, files per juror, the csv data etc I came to the conclusion that while set to 5, Montage divided the files for a quorum of 2. Experimenting I set it to 6. The only thing that Montage did was to divide the remaing open tasks between all the jurors, giving more tasks to jurors that had already finished and less to jurors that didn't start. Again, the quorum was set to 6 and Montage used 2. Now the quorum cannot be decreased. This is obviously a bug. It has to be checked and repaired, so that we can set again the quorum at 4 jurors and montage to rearrange the files to this (and not 2). -Geraki TLG 10:59, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
- Geraki, I have no access to the code, so I can't say what is really happening. I ping Leila and hope that she can communicate this problem to the developers.
- My user's experience is that Montage makes a non-obvious re-distribution of the tasks whenever you change something during the round. Therefore, it is highly advisable that you check everything before pressing the 'Activate' button for the next round. Regarding your problem with the number of jurors, I never experienced that. We tried many different distributions of photos between jurors for Russia (WLE-2018 and in previous contests), and it always worked well. --Alexander (talk) 11:15, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Geraki: As Alexander mentioned, the redistribution happens automatically in the tool. It's based on the productivity of the jurors, so the more work you have finished as a juror, the more will be assigned to you. If you don't want a juror to receive more photos, you need to remove them from the tool. This is of course not always possible, for example, if you have reached the minimum number of jurors you can have per quorum. Re quorum changes: If I recall correctly, you can change the number in one direction but not the other. Geraki are you at the moment blocked on any of these? Otherwise, we are aware of these and they are part of our feature change pile. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 04:51, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

@Alexmar983: please note that I've added the template above for the bot to archive Wiki Science competition section, assuming that all Wiki Science activities are done by now. If you disagree, please remove the template and this note. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 18:20, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
If you want to use Montage for WSC, add your country name and your login(s) in the table below:
International campaign and more
@Alexmar983: It's exciting to see a new place Montage will be helpful. :) Thanks for your requests. Can you let me know by when you need these campaigns set up? Also, is there a page on wiki that you are aware of that shows the start and end date and time of these campaigns? This way, I can use the information in that page when creating your campaigns. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:45, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- I have some experience with montage as a juror, and I asked many questions also to the guy in charge of the process so I think I know enough, and this would work smoothly. To answer your question, ending dates are listed here but most of the countries without juries will have few uploads so we will probably do them manually. I guess I will probably ask you to use montage for only one or two big countries after Dec, 1st and Italy, that's for sure, after dec, 15th.--Alexmar983 (talk) 07:55, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- Ops LilyOfTheWest I cut the first sentence of my edit where I was pinging you and thanking you. So thank you, and here is the ping.--Alexmar983 (talk) 07:57, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
- This all sounds good. Just a heads up that I will go on vacation starting December 16, and while I may check here or my email, I can't guarantee availability. If you want me to set up a campaign for you before I leave, please let me know a few days before that date. And, happy to hear that you already know your way around Montage. :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:27, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: Campaign international and Campaign Italy are both ready. Please go over the instructions carefully, especially when it comes to setting the beginning and end time of your campaigns. You can exclude photos unintentionally if you don't pay attention to details there. Good luck, and ping if you have questions. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 00:47, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
@Jklamo: @Smirkybec: Thanks for signing up to use Montage. Can you let me know a bit more about this contest? At the very least, it's good for us to know when you would like to start the voting and by when you expect your jury's work to be done? This information can help us set up the campaigns for you, but also make sure we don't schedule any major maintenance for the tool until your work is over. Thanks! --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 02:59, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
- For the Czech Republic, uploading end today and the jury will work this week. --Jklamo (talk) 16:01, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

- Thank you LilyOfTheWest I'll read carefully the instruction this week end. the deadline under the titles "1 Nov 2017 - 28 Nov 2017" are not correct, but I don't think this is an issue. I will start with some countries without jury and more than 50 pictures such as Germany and Greece.--Alexmar983 (talk) 05:14, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- LilyOfTheWest I postponed everything on the 15th for a longer upload and we are ready to start even tomorrow but please notice that "international" means more than one campaign (the table is a work in progress). So considering I have to make practice I'd like to start with a campaign for one of the countries where all the jurors are expert users, and have also used montage in the past. Can we start with Germany? Can you create that, I can give it to users who are all expert of he mechanism of the tool. Also, since the files are imported from a Commons category I would like to be sure if this applies or not to subcategories. So if a create a category of "unsuitable" submissions to reduce the workflow to the jurors, when I select the file in the country-level category Category:Images from Wiki Science Competition 2017 in Italy they won't include those in Category:Obviously_ineligible_submissions_for_WSC_2017_in_Italy, am I right?--Alexmar983 (talk) 07:17, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: I see. that was a misunderstanding on my end then. I will delete that campaign if the tool allows me. How many countries do you expect to need a campaign for? (And yes, we can start from Germany). --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 04:36, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- User talk:LilyOfTheWest don't delete them. I have both an Italian campaign (waiting to know the last juror username to start it) and an international one, on Category:Images_from_Wiki_Science_Competition_2017_in_the_rest_of_the_world (which ends on December, 31st). But we will have other countries... like Germany or India the problem is that with 80 countries under my jurisdiction I cannot make you a list from the beginning, I have to use the tool once and than decide on which ones of the other countries I will use it or not, depending on how fast it was compared to the manual option based on the files I see in those categories. So, the use depend on the amount of files to analyze and to know that, I need an answer to this question: if I remove the unsuitable files to a subcategory will the tool read them or not? it's the example I did you above, If I put the terrible files myself in Category:Obviously_ineligible_submissions_for_WSC_2017_in_Italy the jurors for Category:Images from Wiki Science Competition 2017 in Italy won't see them?--Alexmar983 (talk) 04:51, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: Ok, no deleting of the international campaign then. I was confused by your use-case. I'll leave it there. Regarding your question: You will provide the category that the tool should read from as an input to the round 1 for each campaign. If you provide Category:Images from Wiki Science Competition 2017 in Italy as the "seed" category, all photos in that category will be read. There are a few ways you can exclude photos the way you are doing it now for Montage:
- You can create a list of files that are eligible and have montage read those files as entry files to your round 1. Depending on how many files you have, this can be a lengthy process (some minutes).
- You can add an "eligible" category to the photos that are eligible, and have montage read the eligible photos using this new category.
- You can read all photos in Montage using a category such as Category:Images from Wiki Science Competition 2017 in Italy. Then in the tool, you can create a Round 0 as a Yes/No round and you can set yourself as the juror. Then, you can use the tool and give No to any photo that you want to exclude. You can then create Round 1 with all photos that received Yes from you in Round 0. I like this approach the best as it keeps all the voting in one place. The Yes/No voting is also relatively fast in the tool.
- Which method you choose is your call. Let me know if this answers your question. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 20:57, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

LilyOfTheWest I suspect your "solved" tags probably made this section archived while they were new requests... the bot removed my update few hours after I put it. In any case, there is still work to organize. Not sure about one or two final countries for the table... I only have two hands, this can't be all smooth, it's a lot of diluted work coordinating many people, sorry. I will at least another week to be 100% sure.
In addition to that, there is the very final main international jurors duty in one month or later. Such duty however will be split in 5 categories so in five different competitions. I try to keep it simple, so I will ask it to you LilyOfTheWest in a totally different thread.--Alexmar983 (talk) 08:33, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- LilyOfTheWest the bot keeps removing it, please hurry up! :D--Alexmar983 (talk) 10:18, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
- @LilyOfTheWest: hmm. :D sorry about it. I think I used the template by mistake. I assumed that it can be applied to subsections, but it seems it archives the whole section as long as it appears somewhere in the section. I will remove all requests for archival by the bot so we can work on this section at peace. Sorry about the semi-mess. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 18:36, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
- No problem... that is not the worst "problem" I found on my way in these last two months... not at all.--Alexmar983 (talk) 03:02, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

@Smirkybec: Your campaign [ready]. Please go over the instructions carefully, especially when it comes to setting the beginning and end time of your campaigns. You can exclude photos unintentionally if you don't pay attention to details there. Good luck, and ping if you have questions. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 00:42, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi @LilyOfTheWest: , thank you so much! At the moment Ireland only has 43 images uploaded, so there is a good chance we won't need Montage now. If we do I should be able to spot when images are missing, I've checked that page so much, I know the images well at this point. Thanks again! Smirkybec (talk) 13:03, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Brazil
LilyOfTheWest It would be nice to use Montage for the Brazilian jury as well. Chico Venancio (talk) 00:06, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Chicocvenancio: sorry that we couldn't help you when you requested help. We could add a campaign for you but we didn't have capacity to provide support if something would have gone wrong. Now I have some more time to help you if it's still helpful for you. I understand that you needed it then and it may be too late now, but I figured to least tell you we are available now. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 22:38, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
- LilyOfTheWest It actually is, due to a personal problem I was unable to organize the jury selection and I think montage would ease the necessary work. Thank you very much. Chico Venancio (talk) 16:39, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

- LilyOfTheWest Is there a way to add a juror to a round after it has started? Or to recreate it keeping the already ratings in the images? Somehow I left out a juror in the round. Thanks for the help. Chico Venancio (talk) 17:46, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Chicocvenancio: You can add a juror and the tasks left will be reassigned. Note that you cannot control which juror gets how many new tasks, so some of your jurors who have finished their work will likely get more tasks assigned to them which you may not want. I check your round 1 and quorum is set to 2. This means you can remove the jurors who have finished their voting and add the new juror after that step. The votes of the jurors you remove will remain in the system, so don't worry about that. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:35, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

LilyOfTheWest I had no mail from User:Chicocvenancio. If you have time, could you tell me what it the status of Brazil?--Alexmar983 (talk) 21:51, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: I can definitely check, but the issue is that I will need Chicocvenancio's permission to share the status of their campaign with others. :( I'm sorry, I think it's best if we don't share this information. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 07:22, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
- I mailed weeks ago and I ping him now, I have also asked the organizers to contact him again. I cannot make this request more transparent than this way. I had other emergencies (Poland, Saudi Arabia, Georgia) to fix but they are completed now, and this is our bottleneck and if I cannot do anything with the current campaign, like I cannot even have any estimation of its status, I am forced to bypass it completely in few days. He told me on May, the 4th he was at the last round, so is he having trouble to make all jurors vote? No problem, the last round can export the data with not all the jurors, I can find new ones. I am flexible to all strategies but at least if I know that status I can organize the process in a better way. If I get no reply, I am not sure that in the framework of an emergency wasting totally someone's work after mail and ping is more respectful than trying to recover part of it (if this is the case, again, i don't know). Also, as a matter of transparency, I have to clearly write who is doing the final selection. If I add it on the top of someone else's work they get recognition. If I bypass it completely, I have to write down only the jurors who effectively did the work at the last minute, that does not look an optimal solution to me.--Alexmar983 (talk) 10:50, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
- I write also to some of the jurors.--Alexmar983 (talk) 23:00, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

LilyOfTheWest please we can't stay on hold like this. If you simply send me the xls summary of the second tound, so I have enough data to insert some decent finalists in Commons:Wiki_Science_Competition_2017/Winners/Brazil. it does not matter if a juror is missing.User:Chicocvenancio can delcare the precise national winners with the timeline he thinks it's better. International
Slaporte, LilyOfTheWest can you create the four "international" categories (people in science, microscopic images and macro-photography, non photographic media, general) for the main trnasnational jury? Thank you!--Alexmar983 (talk) 21:55, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: Done. Please check the table above. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 07:28, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
- LilyOfTheWest that's perfect.--Alexmar983 (talk) 10:43, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Slaporte, LilyOfTheWest two jurors are not voting three campaigns, the first round. I would like to remove them and start the next round (maybe also with them, just in case they vote that one). But I can't. I can pause, remove them but not resave. How can I finalize a campaign where a juror is missing? It's the "International microscopic" "International General" and "International people in science". Can you remove the non voting jurors, finalize and start the next round with those jurors? I don't care if they don't vote there, I can always download the results even if they are not finalized. Also, the "non photographic" campaign can be removed it is useless because I cannot upload certain file formats, we are using xls file.--Alexmar983 (talk) 05:41, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: I looked at "International microscopic". The issue is that quorum is not easily changeable. You've set it to 10 and it needs the last two jurors to vote. You have two options (maybe three): One, find two other jurors that can replace the two who have not voted. Two, Create another campaign in Montage, export the results from Round 1 to a file, choose the ones going to the next round, and then import the files that passed to Round 1 of your new campaign. Three, I'll check with Slaporte to see if he can fix this on the backend for you but now is almost 11pm local time for us and you may miss another 12-24 hours before we get back to you on this. If you're short in time, I suggest option 2. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:45, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi. I am going to be part of the jury for Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 Romania and would like to be able to use the Montage tool for that purpose.—Andrei S. Talk 06:52, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

- On September , the 28th I will teach Montage to the it-N users at WMI in Milan, I therefore suppose the other Italian regions will be added in the table. This year we agreed not to have a parallel regional selection to the national one, but instead the regional juries will act as preselection step for the images for the national juries. Be prepared because many regions will ask for a specific campaign, I suppose.--Alexmar983 (talk) 19:11, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

To whom it may concern =) I should be at your disposal to create Montage campaigns on Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 1 as well as on Oct. 2 till ~21:00 (CET). From that time on, I will be on travel. I will still try to answer your requests ASAP, but there may be some delays as I won't be online all the time. --Alexander (talk) 19:43, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Atsirlin: if you want me to fill in for you after October 2, please let me know. And thanks a lot for all the work on this front. It's a BIG help. :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 18:21, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Leila, let's see where we are on October 2. I will let you know. --Alexander (talk) 18:31, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Alexander, would it be possible to set up the UK campaigns this week, please, as we'd like if we can to make a good start reviewing early submissions even before the contest closes. As with previous years, we'll need all four UK campaigns (England, Scotland, Wales, NI) to be brought together as one set of images to be reviewed - ie we use a single UK login for Montage. Could you let me know? Many thanks MichaelMaggs (talk) 19:23, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- MichaelMaggs, I can do it for you, no problem. But you know that the import can only be made once, don't you? If you start, say, on 25.09, you will need another Montage campaign for images uploaded between 26.09 and 30.09. And you will have to merge the results manually. --Alexander (talk) 19:40, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. We came across that problem last year, and filed a Montage enhancement request. But that's probably still awaiting action. In that case, it's probably best that we start on 1st October. Regards, MichaelMaggs (talk) 19:47, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- Wouldn't it be possible to split the jury campaign for the first phase in two? You'd have to manually upload the file list the second time. If you're only doing filtering in the first round (yes/no), and then import the two jury rounds into one through file list export/import, would that do the trick? Atsirlin, you know the tool at this point better than I do :) Effeietsanders (talk) 01:18, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- Lodewijk, yes, it's possible, and that's what we do for Russia (in fact, with even more tricks and more than 2 first-round campaigns this year). I just let people know that some manual work should be done in this case, and I am likely unable to help with it, given the huge amount of Russian photos. --Alexander (talk) 09:16, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

- Is there a known date when WLM jury coordinators will get access to the Montage? This is just for setting the timetables for the Finnish WLM jury so I just need the information for the date and I am happy with whatever date is. --Zache (talk) 06:55, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Italy
Marta Arosio (WMIT), if you need 20 different Montage campaigns, give me the list with 20 names, please. --Alexander (talk) 16:22, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
- Alexander two of them can be given directly to me, with discussed with Marta Arosio (WMIT) yesterday too. In any case, I think my title is fine. So the first string is something similar to other countries (WLM2018 Italy for example) and than you put the name of the region. probably not all of them, some will be done manually, so maybe it's 15 or 16... in any case you should probably start to create all those related to regions with more than 200 images. We need to start those asap--Alexmar983 (talk) 08:26, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
- Alexmar983, sorry, can I just have the list? I can create any number of campaigns, but I need the procedure to be as straight-forward as possible. It means, I don't want to decide myself which region needs the campaign and which does not. --Alexander (talk) 08:35, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
- Alexander you have my list, it's the two campaigns already in the table since September. Of course what you put as a first string, that's you Montage volunteer who usually decide. I suppose the same style of the other countries and editions. Than you add the region's name. The other campaign of Marta will be the same style of the title, with a similar beginning and a different name of the regions. She can list you those but I am telling you, they will be the categories with more image in that page for sure.--Alexmar983 (talk) 08:44, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I have your list, but I need to know the other 20. Or it's only 10, or 15? Anyway, I am waiting for the list before processing the request by Marta. --Alexander (talk) 08:51, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
- So can you process mine right now? You have them than Marta can list you the rest, right? Sorry but I am explaining to you that the style of the title is the same so there is nothing fragmented just a list of two items that will increase later. I need to start Tuscany very soon because it is the largest one.--Alexmar983 (talk) 10:34, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
- Alexmar983, are you aware that you can't add photos to the campaign after the initial import? If you start right now, the photos uploaded tonight and tomorrow won't be included in your campaign. I plan to create the campaigns right after the end of the upload period, so you will have your campaign ready Monday morning or even Monday night, should you choose to start with the grading that early =)
- Is that OK for you? --Alexander (talk) 10:53, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
- Alexander I am aware... I never said I import today :D But I need the campaign scaffolding to organize with calm deadlines, paste jurors, write instructions make tests... probably make a test about how exlcuding jurors exclude certain files and how big the impact (than I erase and do again). Right after midnight I make the final upload and I want to be prepared. The Tuscany campain is the national bottleneck, I want to start in the early morning of the 1st at the latest.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:06, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
- Alexmar983, alright. I just wanted to make sure that I won't have to re-create the campaigns. Your two campaigns are ready now (see the table). Good luck!
- PS. Other campaigns will appear shortly after midnight UTC. --Alexander (talk) 14:06, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- Alexander Sorry for delay. My campaigns are all the regions in Italy, except Liguria and Toscana. Your campaigns have been created! You may already know this, but let me remind you: Montage does the import based on the date of the last edit. The upload date itself does not matter. If you want to have all your files imported, please, set the end date to any time in the future (say, October 2 if you do the import today). Then you will be sure that all files go to the jury, and nothing is lost. Have fun with the grading! --Alexander (talk) 00:16, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
Alexander, I added Greece on the table. Question: If images are added later in a "obviously inelligible" category, will it be imported in Montage? -Geraki TLG 08:25, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Alexander, I get 'Internal server error' after the login page when attempting to login using Firefox (on a Mac). Does this mean we need to warn jurors that Firefox is not an option? MichaelMaggs (talk) 17:23, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- MichaelMaggs, do you see this error message all the time? I encountered it 2 or 3 times during the last month, and every time I had to write Mahmoud who restarted something on the server, but he promised to fix this and make the restart automatic. I don't know whether he changed the code or not, but I had no problems with Montage today. I am using Firefox under Windows 10. --Alexander (talk) 18:09, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- It's repeatable for me (10 attempts at least since you set the campaign up early this morning), so maybe it's a Firefox for MacOS issue. Chrome seems to work. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 18:20, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- If you're still getting this error, then please send me any info (either by email to me or in a github issue), and then try logging-in again after clearing cache or a hard-refresh. We'll work on a fix! Best, Slaporte (talk) 16:02, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks. It's on GitHub. MichaelMaggs (talk) 13:15, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
Urgent WLM 2018 Montage blocking issues - where to report?
Hi, international team Effeietsanders, LilyOfTheWest, Alexander where would you like jury co-ordinators to report blocking issues with the Montage judging tool, this year, please? By email (to Lily) as last year? Or Slaporte, Paweł? Or on GitHub (but no timely responses there for many months)? Or here? Current issues include one judge who is seeing a repeated 404 error on attempted logon, and another who sees filenames but no images. Please advise! MichaelMaggs (talk) 20:47, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- I have no preference and perhaps no answer to your question, because I can only create the campaigns and share my own organizer's experience. I have neither access to the code nor sufficient knowledge to understand it. I would try to play with the browser / operating system. When it does not help, send MahmoudHashemi some screenshots. --Alexander (talk) 21:01, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- @MichaelMaggs: Probably best to report them here (if feasible), and ping both Atsirlin and LilyOfTheWest.
- Probably obvious, but indeed different browser, and trying in incognito mode is a good start before reporting. That should take case of a lot of user-specific issues. I've made the developers aware of the issues reported here. Effeietsanders (talk) 21:24, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Here or github is good. If you can send me specific info about the juror and file where they are seeing the problem, then you can send it via email. Thanks, Slaporte (talk) 16:06, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks. We weren't able to get to the bottom on the 404 error seen by one reviewer in time, and we had to reallocate his tasks. MichaelMaggs (talk) 09:19, 7 October 2018 (UTC)
Bugs and workarounds
We tried to edit the organizer round jurors after we started it and problem was that the "save" button was disabled after our change. However, changing the ending date of the round will enable the save button and you can save the added/removed jurors. --Zache (WMFI) (talk) 12:28, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, you have to re-enter the deadline of the round every time you make changes. It is highlighted in red and thus easy to notice. --Alexander (talk) 13:06, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Ranking Round Not Showing All Images
When creating a round with ranking system, Montage is showing only 100 images (we have 400+). Is ranking limited to only 100 images or are we doing anything wrong? Thanks a lot for the help. --Sumit Surai (talk) 12:55, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- Sumit Surai, the ranking option never worked for me properly, so I am also curious to hear the answer. But if the time is tight, I suggest using the rating option and do the ranking based on the grades. --Alexander (talk) 14:18, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Sumitsurai and Atsirlin: I recall there's a limit of 100 images for the ranking round. I suggest you use rating to get it below 100 first. Ranking is not a feasible method with that many pictures anyway. Effeietsanders (talk) 15:34, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
Need another campaign set up, please
Hi Alexander, Slaporte could one of you urgently set up a new UK campaign for me please: WLM2018 United Kingdom, Part II ? This is for the final shortlist for our judges to look at tomorrow. I can't just open a new round, as I need to upload the list of images manually, and that's not a supported option for later rounds of an existing campaign. Many thanks, MichaelMaggs (talk) 20:10, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

- @Atsirlin: I don't see a particular objection. Maybe unless there's a coordinator already for other competitions such as WLM (just to make sure that we keep things as clear as possible). @LilyOfTheWest: , do you see any issue? Effeietsanders (talk) 22:04, 29 July 2018 (UTC)

- Sahaquiel, sorry for the delay. To be honest, I have not heard back from Leila, but I assume she is fine if I handle this request.
- I noted down that this campaign should be created on September 1. It won't make sense to create the campaign now, because all photos should be imported in Montage at the same time. It is not possible to import additional photos later.
- Please, give me a ping on September 1 in case I forget about this task. --Alexander (talk) 07:25, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks! I attended Wikimania, and saw there the talk about Montage (that's why I discovered this marvelous tool) and talk there with LilyOfTheWest. I didn't mention directly WLZ, only my doubts on how to user to tool (thinking in apply it on WLZ). Until September 1! Thanks! Sahaquiel - Hast du eine Frage? 17:12, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi all. Sorry for the long delay. I somehow had missed this conversation. @Atsirlin: Your help is absolutely welcomed on this front, but this is quite a bit of work and I want to be mindful of your time and offer. If you are up for doing it, we in the WLM international team would gladly accept your offer. If not, please don't feel pressured. Let us know what you prefer to do. :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:06, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Montage access for WLM query
- This section was archived on a request by: Yarl 💭 19:26, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Hi! I have a question regarding the Montage access. We are organising the WLM2018 India and requested access for Montage for the same. Could you please let us know when the access will be given? I heard it is given in October after the competition ends so that all the images are imported to Montage together. If this is true, are there any suggested steps to eliminate the images which do not follow the competition rules (Photos of monuments which are not listed, irrelevant photos etc.) before the jury team starts deciding on the relevant images? Because if we start from October the schedule will become very tight. Thanks. Sumit Surai (talk) 15:29, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Sumitsurai,
- Please make sure the information in the table above is up to date, and then you'll get access early October. The images will then be imported from the category. You can eliminate images by removing the Wiki Loves Monuments template from the image before import. Effeietsanders (talk) 18:39, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi @Effeietsanders: , thanks for the reply. Is it ok if we do not remove the Wiki Loves Monuments template but just shift those images into another category, say [[Category:Reviewed images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in India]], so that when we import the main category, we dont have to import those already first screened images. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 07:14, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- @LilyOfTheWest: As I don't have direct access to test this, can you confirm? Effeietsanders (talk) 14:44, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Sumitsurai: What Montage will need from you is to give one category where it needs to read the photos from. This means that you can process your photos as they come in and in the month of September, add a category to the ones you process and then later tell Montage to read from that category. (You can also give the file-names it should read from, but the category model is much more straightforward.) I hope this helps. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:32, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi I should type UTC time for a campaign starting on Set, 1st at midnight in Italy UTC 31 august 22:00. But I cannot type 22. I mostly don't care about this, even in other competitions from all the globe i simply put few hours before, the starting upload is quite rigid... but why does this happen?--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:25, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
Same for the satrting point, I cannot type 22 at September, the 30th.--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:27, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- It works for me. Perhaps try a different browser? --Alexander (talk) 14:36, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- Just typed 31.08.2018 22:00 UTC in your Ligurian campaign. --Alexander (talk) 14:37, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- Now that I think of it Alexander... I did not have this issue with the old MAC, I am sure I played with the option... mine browser is Firefox and Windows 10 now. I can try to change it with Chrome later. In any case what happens is that it types only "2" and than "2" in the other field (so 02:02) no matter how fast I try. Thanks. --Alexmar983 (talk) 16:02, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- If you are really stuck, I can set up the time period for you. Just tell me the start and end date you want. --Alexander (talk) 16:39, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- FYI Alexander it works on IE on windows10. On that web browser it shows a scroll-down selection menu that can be validated with a click on a "done" icon. Basically the interface on that detail looks different. I will tell this also the other coordinators so they are aware they should try different browser combinations if they have similar issues. in general I see bugs on Montage more frequently on the most recent OS.--Alexmar983 (talk) 19:43, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Resolution
- This section was archived on a request by: Yarl 💭 19:28, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Hi all, I can't seem to find an answer to this, but I was wondering why megapixels are used as the gauge of resolution? It ranks large files that aren't in a traditional photograph aspect ratio artificially low and makes ranking them more cumbersome (as the file page needs to be double checked). Aside from this, it megapixel the unit used for image resolution in the round set up? Thanks! Smirkybec (talk) 16:18, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- Smirkybec, the filter for resolution is given in pixel, i.e., you have to type 2000000 for the 2 MPx cutoff. --Alexander (talk) 16:29, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- Alexander, okay, thanks for that. What was the reason for choosing megapixels over megabytes? Smirkybec (talk) 16:35, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- Smirkybec, because megabytes gauge the file size and not the image resolution. For a given resolution the file size can be large or small depending on the compression level. --Alexander (talk) 16:53, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- Alexander, fair enough. For me seems like a strange way of displaying the file details, having studied graphic design and print management it's not how we were taught to assess images for print/reusage. Smirkybec (talk) 21:06, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

The list of jurors I was given from the previous year proved to be complicated to manage. Despite being informed to double check their password days in advance some of them did very late when I already had to start due to time schedule. As far as I understood they cannot be recovered and they created new accounts. Montage is kinda rigid on this issue. I hoped that replacing one of them was possible but I cannot save. What do you suggest me to do? I erase the round and restart and they vote again? I export the results without one juror, accept the files missing one vote as sufficient, than create a new file and import it as a separate round?--Alexmar983 (talk) 22:51, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- Alexmar983, you can always remove a juror and add another one to the list. --Alexander (talk) 17:52, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
- I though so but I couldn't save... I was sure I was told it was possible. althoug I never did so i though it was my false memory. Now, would you like to try [[User:Atsirlin|Alexander] yourself]? Removing jurors

If I recall correctly, removing jurors will keep their votes and they will still count on the result, right? -Geraki TLG 09:45, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- Yes. --Alexander (talk) 10:29, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, though be careful if the juror being removed has not finished the task. Any unreviewed images will be re-assigned to the remaining jurors (and any new ones added at the same time), but not in the way you might expect. Montage re-assigns all remaining images among the remaining jurors so that their new workloads are approximately equalised at that point, ignoring any work already done. So if one juror has almost finished the task and another has yet to start, the workloads will be re-set so that the first has a lot more to do and the second has less than initially expected. It's not possible to re-assign the work of a deleted juror to one or more specific others (I logged an enhancement request to that effect last year). MichaelMaggs (talk) 18:28, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

- Ehrlich91, one campaign is always one set of images that are graded in one or more rounds. If you want to work on a different set of images, you need a separate campaign. I created one for you. However, I recommend that you do not split images into many different campaigns unless it is really necessary. That's more work for us and also for your jurors who have to switch between the different campaigns. --Alexander 22:35, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

- What can I do? Geertivp (talk) 17:10, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
- Geertivp, please, tell me your settings for the second round (threshold, jurors, quorum). Then I can try it myself. Usually such errors occur if you forget to specify the threshold, or if your filters are incompatible with the threshold (therefore, I would normally turn off all filters in the second round, because they should have been applied already in the first round anyway).
- PS. I am watching this page and will see your messages (but that's the only pages on Commons that I follow). --Alexander (I won't see your ping here; please, reach me in other projects) 17:30, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
- Problem solved - I forgot to indicate the "Threshold Minimal average rating for photo". The error was a bit cryptic. Sorry to disturb you. Geertivp (talk) 17:37, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
- Alexander, I get an error message when I try to start the second round https://tools.wmflabs.org/montage/#/campaign/196-wiki-loves-heritage-belgium-2018-wmbe

Wiki Loves Heritage Belgium in 2018 - Oost-Vlaanderen
Could you please create an additional Montage campaign for WMBE? The start and end dates are 15 June until 15 November 2018, included. This campaign is part of Commons:Wiki Loves Heritage 2018 in Belgium. You can register Geertivp as coordinator. Geertivp (talk) 12:10, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Folk 2018
Hello @Atsirlin: @LilyOfTheWest: . On November 30 Wiki Loves Folk finished and we would like to use Montage for the evaluation of the images, as in previous editions. It would be possible to create a campaign with this category?. Thank you in advance. --Rubén Ojeda (WMES) (talk) 22:24, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
- Rubén Ojeda (WMES), here is your campaign. --Alexander (I won't see your ping here; please, reach me in other projects) 08:23, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- For the record, I was asked to create the second campaign for this competition. --Alexander 21:40, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
- And the third one. I think we may consider a restriction on the number of campaigns per one competition. --Alexander 00:58, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- What causes the need for multiple campaigns in this case? Effeietsanders (talk) 09:44, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
- It is because a set of photos of the contest, due to an oversight, was not categorized as such and could not be part of the first round of evaluation, so there was a need for a second round. If this problem had not occurred initially, a single campaign would have been enough. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. --Rubén Ojeda (WMES) (talk) 10:12, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

xls summary
Hi, I want to point out that with my very very new PC with Windows 10 and office package, the downloaded xls files is unusable, because the columns do not discriminate the data, it is all one row as text. On my old MAC with an old MS office package, no problem! The table is very clear, the name of files and the data of each jurors on one column, as it should be.--Alexmar983 (talk) 08:42, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
@Yarl: is this related to front-end? --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 18:38, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: is this problem resolved? and are you not just confusing xls and csv? Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 16:28, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
- ok it's still the same with the new software updates and I know the difference between xls and csv, I am saying that when I open with MS Excell on both compute the same file on one computer (MAC, old MS package) it opens me the file in a way I can read, on Windows 10 it does not. Now I simply always used it on one computer and I paid no particular attention to it, besides telling you. Also, of all the possible problems of confusing xls and csv file, such as for example not saving additional data sheet put in the same file, or not saving color background of cells, I have never heard of such problem of format. Shouldn't they both read cells and rows as cells and rows? That's the basic part of the data sheet.--Alexmar983 (talk) 18:56, 21 September 2018 (UTC)
By the way it seems fine with two LibreOffice from two different people I know. In that case they also read the farsi and Cyrillic script.--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:26, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- I had some similar issues in the past. For me the trick was to not open the file directly, but open a blank sheet, and then 'import' the csv with the correct settings (you have to select the right character set etc). This may be dependent on your packages' default settings, which may be different on Windows and your old mac. Effeietsanders (talk) 15:01, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- I run into the same problem. It's not related to the tool, but instead, to how Excel handles csv files. I uploaded it on to Google Spreadsheet and it worked fine. Alhen .::··¨ 13:07, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
