Sign up for Wiki Loves Africa 2016 jury

Hello Montage team!!

LilyOfTheWest asked us to consider your tool instead of the other one we have been using. My user id on Commons is 1499491 (I think). I am the coordinator for this year's jury process. The competition closed on Wed, 31st January. We (@Anthere: and I) are currently cleaning up the obvious out of scope and copyvio issues with the submissions but would like to get started on the initial judging round next week. Please let me know how to do this. We have 2 organisers and 6 jurors. Our provisional timeline looks like this:

  • 31st January - Competition closes
  • 1st-3rd February - set up jury tool and finalise jurors
  • 1 - 6th February - Final clean-up of entries and categories
  • 7th - 12th February- upload to jury tool
  • 13th - 27th February - first selection on entries by commonists
  • 2nd-17th March - 2nd selection of entries by jurors
  • 22nd -31st March - 3rd and final round of entries
  • 2nd April - Winner announcement and Community prize call for selection
  • 2nd-14th April- Community prize selection
  • 19th April - Final prize winners announced

Very excited to get started! Thanks! Islahaddow (talk) 08:22, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Excellent! I'll add your campaign this afternoon, and then look for an email with notes on setting up your first round. All you will need is a category with all the photos from your competition. We can use a round of yes/no voting to remove out of scope and disqualified photos, if that's easier. Thanks! Slaporte (talk) 18:13, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Questions and discussion

Wiki Loves Earth 2017 - Serbia

Hello Montage team!

Wikimedia Serbia is organizing the Wiki Loves Earth competition this year. We are very interested in this jury tool, so please can you give us an access? Please set me as the maintainer, so I can later add members of the jury (the three of them). Since the competition starts in May, can you provide us please with some kind of test version, so we can educate the jury members? Thank you in advance. Best of luck! --Ivana Guslarevic (talk) 14:31, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

@Ivana Guslarevic: I just saw this note. Are you still interested in this? If yes, can you let me know the username of your jury coordinator? --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 21:53, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
@LilyOfTheWest: Yes, we are interested! I'm the coordinator of the entire competition. :)--Ivana Guslarevic (talk) 10:21, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
@Ivana Guslarevic: great. Please let me know the exact start and end time/date of your campaign and I'll create a campaign in Montage for you. Also, please let me know when you want to start your jury process so I can know how much you are in rush (whether we should respond to you in 12 hours or if it's okay if we have everything ready in a couple of days. If you are in rush, the fastest would be for the two of us to set up a Hangout call and go over everything together, to make sure you know how everything works and we double-check things together before your campaign starts. :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 04:23, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
@LilyOfTheWest: The campaing started on May 1st, ending May 31st at midnight CET (tonight). The jury proces starts on May 5th. It would be great if we can arange that Hangout call today, around 5PM CET. :) Thank you! --Ivana Guslarevic (talk) 09:46, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
Ivana Guslarevic, I'm assuming you mean June 5, and not May 5. :) In that case, we have enough time to help you set up your campaign in peace. Can you let me know the exact start and end time/date of your campaign in UTC? I will then create a campaign for you and you can get started importing the images, testing that everything is set up correctly, and then starting the jury process. It may be best we still set up a call, maybe Saturday late afternoon/evening your time for me to walk you over the tool. On wiki is fine, too. Your call. :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:02, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
LilyOfTheWest Yes, June 5, sorry. :) Start/End time date of campaign in UTC: 00:00, 1 May 2017/00:00 31 May 2017 (UTC+2). Since I won't be available at Sathurday night, @AxeAdam20: will talk to you. :) Can you please add him as coordinator as well? Thanks!--Ivana Guslarevic (talk) 09:50, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
Ivana Guslarevic I'm a bit confused about the start and end time of your campaign but I will double check with AxeAdam20 tonight. I created a campaign for Serbia for now and added the three of us as coordinators (I have to have myself added as a coordinator or I can't help you later on with your questions easily.;) @AxeAdam20: I'm in UTC-7 and will be around starting 10:00 my time. Just send me an email at lilyofthewest.wikimedia@gmail.com and let me know what time works for you and I'll send you a Hangout invitation. Looking forward! :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:12, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
@AxeAdam20: @Ivana Guslarevic: Your campaign is now set up. Please log in to Montage and view it. You can now start creating and starting your round 1. Good luck, and do ping us if you run into any question/issue. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 04:37, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Thank you LilyOfTheWest! :) Best of luck!--Ivana Guslarevic (talk) 09:01, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Earth 2017 in Russia

Hi! I would like to request organizer's access to Montage. We plan to try the tool for grading photos from Wiki Loves Earth 2017 in Russia. Thank you in advance!

@ Lily, MahmoudHashemi, Slaporte, Yarl

--Alexander (talk) 07:21, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

@Atsirlin: Thanks for the ping. Can you let me know the username of your jury coordinator? --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 21:53, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
LilyOfTheWest, it's me. --Alexander (talk) 21:54, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
great. @Atsirlin: can you let me know the exact date and start and end time of your campaign? I will likely wait for your campaign to end before creating the campaign in Montage to make sure we have everything correct to the minute (we cannot change the time/date of the campaign after it's created and photos uploaded outside of the time interval you specify won't be imported to the tool). — Preceding unsigned comment added by LilyOfTheWest (talk • contribs) 22:05, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
LilyOfTheWest, the campaign runs from 20170430210000 till 20170531205959. --Alexander (talk) 06:32, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Great! and I assume the time/date is in UTC. I've created a campaign for you. My suggestion is that once your contest is over tonight, we create the first round of your jury process together and double-check that all photos are imported to the system correctly before you start adding your jury members. For example, we would want to look at the list of all photos that are in the category you are importing but do not get imported and verify that they're indeed uploaded outside of the campaign date/time. This shouldn't be generally a problem but if an editor decides to change the image after the competition is over, the latest edit date-time will be considered as the upload time by Montage and in that case, a valid photo may get excluded. This rarely happens but we'd want to check it with you to be super sure we don't miss a photo. :) Ping me there when you're ready and if I'm not in the middle of something we can go over it together.
@Yarl: @Slaporte: @MahmoudHashemi: FYI. I may ping you if I need help. :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 04:20, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
Lily, I am able to log into the system and start creating the first round (where jurors should be added), but I can't check which files were imported before adding jurors. So what exactly should be done at this stage? --Alexander (talk) 02:51, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Alexander great. Please go ahead and create your round 1 but do not tell your jury to start. Once you have round 1 set up, please ping me and we will check to see if there are any files in the category that you have used to import photos from that are excluded. We will provide that list to you, you can go over it and if you see no issues, you can ask your jury to start. I will sleep soon and will check here again in around 9 hours. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:59, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
I hope you slept well=) I created the round but did not activate it, and wait for your further instructions. I should be more or less online until 9pm (Central European time) and from 5am tomorrow. --Alexander (talk) 12:52, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
Lily, we are about to start the jury process, so it would be good to receive your feedback today. Otherwise, we will just start with what we have, and check for the unlikely missing images later. --Alexander (talk) 11:04, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
I'm looking into this now, Alexander. My apologies for the delay, I refreshed this page a few times yesterday to see if you have responded and saw nothing. I'm blaming it on caching issues. sorry again. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 01:34, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
For archive happiness: Slaporte and Alexander confirmed in an email thrad that there is no discrepancy on the number of photos that are in the category in Commons and what's in Montage (which explains why we didn't get any disqualified photos via the too). This case is now closed. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 12:31, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

WLE 2017 Pakistan

@LilyOfTheWest: . I am organiser of Wiki Loves Earth Pakistan. I wanted to use Montage app for judging purpose. please grand me access. I am jury co-ordinator. our contest ran from 20170430 till 20170531 local time.--Saqib (talk) 13:54, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

@Saqib: Hi, and thanks for the ping. :) Sure. I'll set up your campaign before evening my time (morning your time). You can then create your round 1 yourself, or if you want me to create your round 1, let me know the username of your jurors, how many jury members you want to vote on each photo (all of them or a smaller number of them), the category your photos are in, and whether you want the first round to be a Yes/No round or a rating 1-5 stars round. I can set up everything for you and send you an email to tell you how to activate it once your jury is ready to vote. Just FYI, I will be traveling starting 20 hours from now and my access to internet may be sporadic until I get to the destination. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 18:20, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
@Saqib: I created your campaign and you can now access it. Please go ahead and create your round 1 and do ping us if you have questions. Good luck! --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 04:41, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

@LilyOfTheWest: , the process to started is a little confusing. But once I know the role model, everything goes fine. A jury told me it would be better to have the optimized photo and more information like file description. By all means, the tool works for us well--Fantasticfears (talk) 17:12, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
@Fantasticfears: Happy that it worked out for you. It would be good to understand how to make it more intuitive. We are hoping to get some design recommendations for the tool and that should help. If you have specific recommendations, do let us know. In the mean time, and related to what one of your jurors have said: We are listing all issues to be solved. Issue #31 is specifically related to that request and we hope to solve this for the future. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 19:46, 19 June 2017 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Earth 2017 in South Korea

Hello, LilyOfTheWest. I am an organizer of the Korean competition. We want to use this tool as our jury tool. -- 18:09, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

@Motoko C. K.: this is done now. You can access it at https://tools.wmflabs.org/montage-beta/#/admin . Note that I set the end date-time of your campaign to the time that I created the campaign. This will assure that any images that have been updated since the end of your campaign on May 31 get included. (For example, if someone has removed a watermark after the competition, you may not want to discard their photo just because they have made an edit on it). Please let me know if you have any question when you prepare your first round, and have fun! :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 20:23, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

I suggest you keep the end date and time of your campaign to today's date and some hour today, to make sure that if a photo is edited by an uploader or by someone else after your campaign has ended, it doesn't get automatically excluded from being imported to the tool. Access for WLM FR

This section was archived on a request by: VIGNERON (talk) 08:54, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi @Yarl, MahmoudHashemi, and Slaporte: ,

I'd like to request access for WLM FR. But I've got a question, is it possible to be the jury coordinator only as an observer? (as I don't plan to be a member of the jury, just the guy helping and coordinating).

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 18:34, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi @VIGNERON: , I think the answer is yes, but it's up to @LilyOfTheWest: and the rest of the WLM International team who can be organizers for campaigns. As far as observation vs. judging, yes, Montage is built such that you can be a coordinator without being on the jury. Hope that helps! --12.24.35.251 22:40, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi @VIGNERON: . In my experience with Montage from last year, I say yes: the coordinator is just the coordinator. He can be also a juror, but doesn't have to.--Cristian Cenci (WMIT) 10:31, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi @VIGNERON: sure, no problem. Please add the username of the other jury coordinator in the table above as well for us to be able to add both of you at the time of creating your campaign. The two of you can figure out between yourselves who does what. :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 08:43, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi LilyOfTheWest, thanks for the confirmation (and thank you too Cristian Cenci (WMIT)). I'm already on the table (and, for the moment, there is only me). Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 08:54, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

codes

Not sure how strict these codes should be, but according to ISO, the code for basque would be ES-PV. (see Wikipedia). Using 'EU' could be confusing in the future, if we have a special prize for Europe. Effeietsanders (talk) 07:04, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

@Effeietsanders: I would agree on the principle but this is a complicated situation (see images below). ES-PV is *not* the code for the whole Pays basque, only for the part in Spain (and only the western half of it), so it can be quite confusing as well. Plus, there is no code for the part in France (which is the southern half of FR-64) nor for the whole country :/ Finally, AFAIK there is no iso code for Europe (not in ISO 3166 at least).
So in the end ES-PV is for around of a third of the area covered by WLM-EU, I think it's best to keep the 'EU' code (maybe 'EUS' to avoid confusion ?) Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 09:11, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
Oh, "EUS" sounds like a sensible solution, thanks! @Theklan: would that make sense to you? Effeietsanders (talk) 02:49, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation VIGNERON! Yes, EUS is perfect Effeietsanders! -Theklan (talk) 08:25, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
Any news on this Effeietsanders? I would like to give the option to the jury but if is not possible I have to look for an alternative for tomorrow. Thanks! -Theklan (talk) 11:18, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
Updates were sent on the wikilovesmonuments mailing list. See this email for a schedule. Effeietsanders (talk) 14:49, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! I was not in the mailing list and just wondering! -Theklan (talk) 19:13, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
@Romaine: Was the start time of the campaign for ES-PV the same as ES? Just want to make sure as I'm creating their jury campaign and I want to make sure we don't include/exclude photos by mistake based on an incorrect start time. Thanks --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 22:22, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
@LilyOfTheWest: The campaigns ES-EUS and FR-EUS started at the same time as ES and FR. -Theklan (talk) 08:48, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
@LilyOfTheWest: Any news on this? I have the jury ready! -Theklan (talk) 08:35, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Importing pictures

@LilyOfTheWest: Hi! We're having some problems with the campaign: the pictures aren't showing up on Montage. I added the source (Images from WLM Finland etc.) and Montage shows the correct number of pictures, but the pictures themselves aren't showing up on Montage. I can't figure out the reason. I know that it might take time for the pictures to upload but I first tried it like 24 hours ago and nothing's happened :(. Could you also add Zache as a coordinator for our campaign, he's more adept at dealing with this technical stuff than me :D. Tia Kangaspunta (talk)

@LilyOfTheWest: and others. Just pushing this up. Could you check this because least in my ui there is no photos yet. --Zache (talk) 17:00, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
@Tiakangaspunta: Zache is now added as the jury coordinator. @Zache: quorum was set to 0 which meant no juror was assigned to any of the photos. I changed it to 2 given that you and Tiakangaspunta are the two jurors. You should now be able to see the photos and start voting. Let me know if you run into issues. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 17:19, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Thank you! Least stuff in UI changed to something what i expected to see. :) --Zache (talk) 17:21, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Setting up a new campaign

Just some initial feedback on the New Campaign page (version 17.09.02):

  • It's not clear what to enter as Campaign URL. Is this for information only? Presumably http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org.uk for the UK?
  • The Campaign Coordinator text still reads "Coordinators are dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit ..."

MichaelMaggs (talk) 05:23, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

@MichaelMaggs: Thanks for the quick feedback. :) Re URL: what you consider your campaign's landing page is fine for now. The link you have is good. We will make it more descriptive as what it is.
I believe User:Yarl is working on a new landing page for campaign coordinators. So I'd ignore the campaign coordinator text for now.--LilyOfTheWest (talk) 13:20, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
Coordinator text is fixed, but we need copy for Campaign URL. Any ideas @MichaelMaggs and LilyOfTheWest? Yarl 💭  14:17, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
@User:Yarl It depends on what use Montage is making of the entered URL. If it's just for information and it's not used programatically anywhere, perhaps something like "Enter URL of campaign landing page, eg on Commons or local WLM website". MichaelMaggs (talk) 14:36, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
@Yarl: I second Michael's suggestion. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 04:32, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Setting up new campaign - doesn't work?

Hi!

I am trying to set up a new campaign but it doesn't seem to work? I filled out the form but when I click on Create Campaign nothing happens? DDJJ (talk) 09:42, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

@DDJJ: Do you need a new campaign? You already have two for the two different campaigns you work with. Under each, you should create a round 1 that I see you've already created. If you need another campaign, let me know what you need and I will create it for you. (I think we have confused you by offering you a create campaign option that doesn't work.) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 17:15, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
@LilyOfTheWest: Hi! Okay, now I understand why it didn't work. Yes I think I need a new Campaign, can you create one for me? I need it for a special local category that we have in the NL campaign. Or, can I create an extra Yes/No round for this special category? (since these photo's are also in the category which the jurors judging at this moment) DDJJ (talk) 14:36, 5 October 2017 (UTC)
@DDJJ: I created a new campaign for you. If you want to use the result of your current round 1 in NL campaign in this new campaign, you should wait for the current round to finish and you export the data from NL campaign - Round 1 to this new campaign. If for this new campaign, you have a completely different jury process, then go ahead and create your round 1 in the new campaign. If you have questions, please ask. I don't know your exact needs and it's hard to be prescriptive as a result. ;) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 00:57, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
@LilyOfTheWest: Thanks for your help, this is a special category and we do not need the results from round 1 in the new campaign, so I am going to create the first round in this new campaign. Cheers! DDJJ (talk) 12:12, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Juror batches

Hey! So we've opened the voting for the jurors, but as I added some jurors after opening the round (because I had to wait for them to give me their accounts), Montage gives one of the jurors way more numbers than for the others. He already did his batch, but now he has over 900 pictures to vote on. Can't I somehow divide the pictures that he has pending for the other jurors? Tia Kangaspunta

@Tiakangaspunta: We have plans to make the task assignment per jurors more customizable to avoid this issue, but yes, in the current set up of the tool this can happen. If the juror with 100% of their tasks done is completely done with their work (i.e., doesn't need to review their votes), you can remove them from the round. This way, their past votes will remain in the system but no new task is allocated to them. Those tasks will be spread among other jurors. Unfortunately, the more the juror has done, the more the tasks they will receive, as the system perceives that juror as highly efficient juror. ;) You can communicate over email with the jurors how many tasks you want them to do each and remove them one by one if needed (you always will need to have at least as many as your quorum number in your juror pool, thought). We know this is not a perfect solution, but it's a way to help you move forward. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 15:52, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
@LilyOfTheWest: Thank you, this helps! We'll do what we can, and we've communicated to the jurors that the tool is still under construction. The biggest problem at the moment seems to be getting them to do their voting on time, but I'm sure we'll manage one way or another! Tiakangaspunta

Jurors who didn't vote

Hello,

I have 9 jurors for the first round, but 6 of them didn't vote... and I'm affraid they won't, since deadline is in three days. Now my question is: what happen to the pictures dispatched to a juror who didn't vote? BTW, I chose 3 jurors per photo as Quorum. Is it okay or it's too much? Thank you for your help! Best regards, Benoit Rochon (talk) 17:17, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

Based on our experiment in our initial round where we added and then removed all our Wikimedia Finlands board members as jurors so that they can see how Monumental works it just rearranges the remaining pictures to remaining jurors. Removed jurors are visible in UI (least mine) as overstriked names. However i think that it is good idea to wait official answer (@LilyOfTheWest: ) for this too before you remove them. As always backup the list of voted pictures before you do any changes where you don't know what it does. --Zache (talk) 07:03, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
I confirm that deleting a juror redistributes the remaining images between all jurors who have not been excluded. The grades given by the deleted juror remain in the system, so those photos don't have to be graded again. My own experience of quickly finishing the round when one of the jurors is missing is the following: remove all jurors, and add yourself as a juror, or leave one other juror if your quorum is set to 2 jurors per photo. Then you get all the remaining photos and can grade them quickly in order to meet the deadline. --Alexander (talk) 07:41, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
Merci Alexander & Zache. Your answers are very helpful. Last question: I set quorum at 3 jurors at the beginning of the round... can I can set quorum to 1 juror while the round is running? Benoit Rochon (talk) 14:31, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
I did not try it, and I am not sure it makes sense. How would you compare the grades given by 3, 2, and 1 jurors? --Alexander (talk) 14:34, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
@Benoit Rochon: Yes, I confirm that you can remove those 6 jurors and the 3 left will have to view all tasks left. Generally, the redistribution will happen in a way that a juror who has done more work so far will get more new tasks. In your case, this is not an issue since as I checked, the remaining three jurors of yours have done 100% of their tasks so they should all technically receive the same number of new tasks.
On the question of quorum: A quorum of 3 in your case seems reasonable to me. I personally would not recommend going under that number unless you really have to. For your following rounds, you will likely want all jurors to vote on all photos. You have probably seen this email already, I'm sharing it just in case: it has some basic information about round setting that may be helpful for you. I hope this helps. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 16:01, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
Thank you LilyOfTheWest. I have to make a decision in order to meet our deadlines. Next round is the photo Professional jury, and yes they will all vote, on all photos. Best. Benoit Rochon (talk) 17:22, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Food in Macedonia

Dear all, we start preparations for our scheduled Wiki Loves Food in Macedonia, that will start on 1st November, so we will want to use Montage as a jury tool. As I listened session about this tool on CEE Meeting this September from Pawel, I find very useful. Tell me what you need from our side to create page for this. Thank you --Ehrlich91 (talk) 15:45, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

@Yarl: @Slaporte: Could you please review my request :) --Ehrlich91 (talk) 20:10, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
@Ehrlich91: sorry for the delay. If I understand correctly, your campaign starts on November 1st, in which case, we will have some time to figure out the details of the jury tool for you, right? In that case, I ask you to give us a few days. In general, you can use Montage but we just need to figure out on our end who is going to do some work for adding campaigns, etc. Please stay tuned, and if I understood your comment incorrectly and your jury process starts on November 1st, please ping again so we get to this earlier. thanks! :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 01:02, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
@LilyOfTheWest: Yes, it is right, our contest starts on 1st November, so I just want to be ready with everything, but we can wait for a week or so. Feel free to contact me, when you are ready. Thank you for your response --Ehrlich91 (talk) 18:25, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
@Ehrlich91: Just ping us about three days before the end of contest, it's definitely enough :). We will need nicknames of campaign coordinators. Yarl 💭  22:23, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
@Yarl: As we want to include several jury members (non Wikipedians) for our specific contest, we would like to try and explain this tool to these jury members next week, so I would ask you to create our campaign. You can include me as coordinator. Thank you in advance --Ehrlich91 (talk) 21:48, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
@Ehrlich91: Your campaign is ready now. I added myself as a coordinator to it, too, just in case you have questions and you want me to look into things. Please go through the instructions if you haven't already done so and let us know if you have questions. I must say that I'm a bit slow to respond these days, so please don't get too disappointed if it takes me a few days before getting back to you, I do what I can to respond quickly though. Good luck! --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:44, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

I have some experience with montage as a juror, and I asked many questions also to the guy in charge of the process so I think I know enough, and this would work smoothly. To answer your question, ending dates are listed here but most of the countries without juries will have few uploads so we will probably do them manually. I guess I will probably ask you to use montage for only one or two big countries after Dec, 1st and Italy, that's for sure, after dec, 15th.--Alexmar983 (talk) 07:55, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
Ops LilyOfTheWest I cut the first sentence of my edit where I was pinging you and thanking you. So thank you, and here is the ping.--Alexmar983 (talk) 07:57, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

And, happy to hear that you already know your way around Montage. :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:27, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
@Alexmar983: Campaign international and Campaign Italy are both ready. Please go over the instructions carefully, especially when it comes to setting the beginning and end time of your campaigns. You can exclude photos unintentionally if you don't pay attention to details there. Good luck, and ping if you have questions. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 00:47, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

@Jklamo: @Smirkybec: Thanks for signing up to use Montage. Can you let me know a bit more about this contest? At the very least, it's good for us to know when you would like to start the voting and by when you expect your jury's work to be done? This information can help us set up the campaigns for you, but also make sure we don't schedule any major maintenance for the tool until your work is over. Thanks! --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 02:59, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

You can exclude photos unintentionally if you don't pay attention to details there. Good luck, and ping if you have questions. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 00:42, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
Thank you LilyOfTheWest I'll read carefully the instruction this week end. the deadline under the titles "1 Nov 2017 - 28 Nov 2017" are not correct, but I don't think this is an issue. I will start with some countries without jury and more than 50 pictures such as Germany and Greece.--Alexmar983 (talk) 05:14, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
LilyOfTheWest I postponed everything on the 15th for a longer upload and we are ready to start even tomorrow but please notice that "international" means more than one campaign (the table is a work in progress). So considering I have to make practice I'd like to start with a campaign for one of the countries where all the jurors are expert users, and have also used montage in the past. Can we start with Germany? Can you create that, I can give it to users who are all expert of he mechanism of the tool. Also, since the files are imported from a Commons category I would like to be sure if this applies or not to subcategories. So if a create a category of "unsuitable" submissions to reduce the workflow to the jurors, when I select the file in the country-level category Category:Images from Wiki Science Competition 2017 in Italy they won't include those in Category:Obviously_ineligible_submissions_for_WSC_2017_in_Italy, am I right?--Alexmar983 (talk) 07:17, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
@Alexmar983: I see. that was a misunderstanding on my end then. I will delete that campaign if the tool allows me. How many countries do you expect to need a campaign for? (And yes, we can start from Germany). --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 04:36, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
User talk:LilyOfTheWest don't delete them. I have both an Italian campaign (waiting to know the last juror username to start it) and an international one, on Category:Images_from_Wiki_Science_Competition_2017_in_the_rest_of_the_world (which ends on December, 31st). But we will have other countries... like Germany or India the problem is that with 80 countries under my jurisdiction I cannot make you a list from the beginning, I have to use the tool once and than decide on which ones of the other countries I will use it or not, depending on how fast it was compared to the manual option based on the files I see in those categories. So, the use depend on the amount of files to analyze and to know that, I need an answer to this question: if I remove the unsuitable files to a subcategory will the tool read them or not? it's the example I did you above, If I put the terrible files myself in Category:Obviously_ineligible_submissions_for_WSC_2017_in_Italy the jurors for Category:Images from Wiki Science Competition 2017 in Italy won't see them?--Alexmar983 (talk) 04:51, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
@Alexmar983: Ok, no deleting of the international campaign then. I was confused by your use-case. I'll leave it there. Regarding your question: You will provide the category that the tool should read from as an input to the round 1 for each campaign. If you provide Category:Images from Wiki Science Competition 2017 in Italy as the "seed" category, all photos in that category will be read. There are a few ways you can exclude photos the way you are doing it now for Montage:
  • You can create a list of files that are eligible and have montage read those files as entry files to your round 1. Depending on how many files you have, this can be a lengthy process (some minutes).
  • You can add an "eligible" category to the photos that are eligible, and have montage read the eligible photos using this new category.
  • You can read all photos in Montage using a category such as Category:Images from Wiki Science Competition 2017 in Italy. Then in the tool, you can create a Round 0 as a Yes/No round and you can set yourself as the juror. Then, you can use the tool and give No to any photo that you want to exclude. You can then create Round 1 with all photos that received Yes from you in Round 0. I like this approach the best as it keeps all the voting in one place. The Yes/No voting is also relatively fast in the tool.
Which method you choose is your call. Let me know if this answers your question. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 20:57, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi @LilyOfTheWest: , thank you so much! At the moment Ireland only has 43 images uploaded, so there is a good chance we won't need Montage now. Wiki Loves Public Space in Belgium 2017

Hi LilyOfTheWest, to answer your request with questions: Can you please create a jury campaign for our contest. Jury coordinator is User:Geertivp. Contest started at 30 June 2017 22:00 UTC and ended at 31 August 2017 22:00 UTC. Photos are here. Likely the easiest way is to have the tool added manually the list of files, that is easy to generate as well as that the list of files to be excluded is already available. Thanks! Romaine (talk) 21:14, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

@Geertivp: Your campaign is created and ready for your access. Please read the instructions very carefully before starting to create Round 1. Once you're ready to create round 1, you should use this link that contains your photos and use it to import the photos to your round 1. Let me know if you have any question. I'm a bit busy with Wiki Loves Monuments results these days but I'll do my best to respond as soon as I can. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:21, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

LilyOfTheWest I suspect your "solved" tags probably made this section archived while they were new requests... the bot removed my update few hours after I put it. In any case, there is still work to organize. Not sure about one or two final countries for the table... I only have two hands, this can't be all smooth, it's a lot of diluted work coordinating many people, sorry. I will at least another week to be 100% sure.

In addition to that, there is the very final main international jurors duty in one month or later. Such duty however will be split in 5 categories so in five different competitions. I try to keep it simple, so I will ask it to you LilyOfTheWest in a totally different thread.--Alexmar983 (talk) 08:33, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

Ireland

@Smirkybec: Your campaign [ready]. Please go over the instructions carefully, especially when it comes to setting the beginning and end time of your campaigns. You can exclude photos unintentionally if you don't pay attention to details there. Good luck, and ping if you have questions. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 00:42, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi @LilyOfTheWest: , thank you so much! At the moment Ireland only has 43 images uploaded, so there is a good chance we won't need Montage now. If we do I should be able to spot when images are missing, I've checked that page so much, I know the images well at this point. Thanks again! Smirkybec (talk) 13:03, 29 November 2017 (UTC)

LilyOfTheWest It would be nice to use Montage for the Brazilian jury as well. Chico Venancio (talk) 00:06, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

@Chicocvenancio: sorry that we couldn't help you when you requested help. We could add a campaign for you but we didn't have capacity to provide support if something would have gone wrong. Now I have some more time to help you if it's still helpful for you. I understand that you needed it then and it may be too late now, but I figured to least tell you we are available now. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 22:38, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
LilyOfTheWest It actually is, due to a personal problem I was unable to organize the jury selection and I think montage would ease the necessary work. Thank you very much. Chico Venancio (talk) 16:39, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
@Chicocvenancio: Your campaign is ready. Please go over the instructions very carefully (I can't overemphasize this. You can exclude photos unintentionally if you don't pay attention to details there. Good luck, and ping if you have questions. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 14:42, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

International campaign and more

@Alexmar983: It's exciting to see a new place Montage will be helpful. :) Thanks for your requests. Can you let me know by when you need these campaigns set up? Also, is there a page on wiki that you are aware of that shows the start and end date and time of these campaigns? This way, I can use the information in that page when creating your campaigns. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 06:45, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

This all sounds good. Just a heads up that I will go on vacation starting December 16, and while I may check here or my email, I can't guarantee availability. If you want me to set up a campaign for you before I leave, please let me know a few days before that date. And, happy to hear that you already know your way around Montage. :) --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 05:27, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

For the Czech Republic, uploading end today and the jury will work this week. --Jklamo (talk) 16:01, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
