Commons talk:Administrators' noticeboard/Vandalism
Archive
[edit]Hello. Currently this page is archived each 30 days. I find this time for this noticeboard a bit long since most reports are like "please block XXX -- done". I propose to set a shorter archival time if there's no major opposition. I was thinking in 5 days however other time proposals are welcome. Thanks for your attention, --Dferg (talk · meta) 20:14, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- I'd prefer 10 days, or a week minimum. My feeling is that people who don't hang out much around Commons would tend to come back and check out a thread on a weekly basis, so with shorter archiving intervals we run the risk of having the thread archived already. I'm not strongly opposed to 5 days though, but I think something a bit longer might be more appropriate; and we can always decrease again after a while, if it seems appropriate. –Tryphon☂ 20:50, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- I would agree with 10 days too. Btw. thanks for commenting, Tryphon. --Dferg (talk · meta) 21:21, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Does ANV cover spam?
[edit]From the discussion I've just had at Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/Blocks_and_protections#Swasthalaya, would it make sense to change
- Report users for clear cases of vandalism. Block requests for any other reason should be reported to the blocks and protections noticeboard.
to "clear cases of vandalism or spam", to encourage obviously promotional accounts to be reported here?
I've generally been filing final-warning spam reports over at AN/B because it's not been 100% clear to me that Commons considers advertising to be outright vandalism (COM:VANDALISM doesn't mention spam, and COM:SPAM appears to define it as being distinct from vandalism). I was told in the linked discussion that spamming was "no-notification-needed vandalism" and could and should be reported at ANV instead, but this doesn't seem a necessarily unanimous view. - Not really that important which you report it on. In general, spam isn't as urgent, but it can pretty quickly escalate to a blocking offense. - Jmabel ! talk 16:58, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
