WikiProject Pronunciation is intended to co-ordinate the efforts of the Wikipedians maintaining Commons' pronunciation files, and the organization of information about them. Wikimedia Commons hosts over 600,000 audio files, hundreds of thousands of which are pronunciation files.
Scope
[edit]All pronunciation files fall within the scope of this project.
Goals
[edit]- Upload free licensed pronunciation files, ideally we have a male and female version of every word/number for each language.
- Improve the categorization of pronunciation files.
- Form a consensus on pronunciation file names and implement it.
- Improve the descriptions of pronunciation files utilizing {{Pronunciation}}
- Ensure files utilize templates that allow language switch.
- Continue and expand categorizing of pronunciations in multi-tree categories; maintaining that categorization (including expansion of crowded categories)
Guidelines
[edit]- TBD
Open tasks
[edit]- Categorize pronunciation files by language, accent (Category:Pronunciation by accent), pronunciation subject (i.e. Category:Pronunciation by subject) and gender of the speaker. (Category:Pronunciation by gender)
- Ensure categorized files utilize keys.
- Properly name/harmonize files by language code.
- Using {{Pronunciation}}, include the language code, translation, and location of the speaker and gender.
- Periodically check for pronunciation files uploaded locally at Wikipedias and transfer them to Commons (using CommonsHelper):
- Periodically check for pronunciation files without categories.
