This project page has been nominated for deletion since 22 October 2024. To discuss it, please visit the nomination page.
Do not remove this tag until the deletion nomination is closed. Reason for the nomination: Shouldn't this be moved or deleted? The page is "inactive" and WMC (now) uses TimedTexts so the page seems nothing but confusing and to not belong into cats "Commons video resources", "Commons help", "Commons features".

Universal Subtitles is a project of the Participatory Culture Foundation. Universal Subtitles was rebranded as Amara, also known as Amara Subtitling. The change also resulted in a new website at Amara, (website formerly hosted at universalsubtitles.org). To create subtitles, you can use the Amara subtitle editor (free software).
Looking for a video to transcribe? See the Videos needing subtitles category and timed text.
To use the Universal Subtitles editor for Commons videos, navigate to the file in question, scroll to the Transcode status-table, right click the link Download of the file you want to use as the template and copy the link. This link can then be pasted into the Universal Subtitles editor URL field. After creating the Timed Text, paste it to Commons by clicking the closed caps-icon (cc) in the player of the file in question and then ⧼mwe-timedtext-upload-timed-text⧽.
