All uploads go into Category:Images from the Tropenmuseum
Uploads are done using User:KITbot. It's a bot now (pywikipedia), but might be an import using a server side maintenance script later.

To do

Most images are in temporary categories now, please help with the categorization process!
Add images to Wikipedia articles to show them to the world
Create temporary category tree
Create a lot of Indonesian location categories
Add corresponding subcategories of photographs by author to images (sample)
Place image highlights in the /Restoration candidates gallery

If you find errors like faulty descriptions or corrupt files, please report them at /Error reports so we can communicate this to the Tropenmuseum.

Categorization

All the images from the Tropenmuseum need to be categorized. The images are placed in Category:Images from the Tropenmuseum (by a template) and a couple of temporary categories in the form Images from KIT, <type> - <contents>. The images need to be moved from the temporary categories to one or more topic categories so they become part of our collection and users are able to find them.

You can find a list of temporary categories here. These temporary categories are based on the metadata provided by the Tropenmuseum and are in Dutch.
- Images from KIT, Afgebeelde instelling - depicted institution
- Images from KIT, Culturele Herkomst - cultural background
- Images from KIT, Functionele categorie - functional category (very broad)
- Images from KIT, Geografische Herkomst - geographic background
- Images from KIT, Gerelateerde instelling/groep - related to some institution or group
- Images from KIT, Materiaal - material used
- Images from KIT, Objecttrefwoord - object/subject
- Images from KIT, Techniek - crafts used to create it
- Images from KIT, Voorstelling/iconografie - subject
- Images from KIT, Voorstelling Activiteit - activity
- Images from KIT, Voorstelling Cultuur - related to a particular culture
- Images from KIT, Voorstelling Geografie - related to a particular geographic location
- Images from KIT, Voorstelling Object - object/subject
- Images from KIT, object - object/subject
- Images from KIT, object - objectname (for latest batch of objects)
A temporary tree will be built under Category:Images from the Tropenmuseum to facilitate the categorization process

Two strategies are possible to get these images categorized. The first one is probably best to do bulk categorization at the start. The second one is good later to get everything cleaned up.

Categorize by category

Pick an interesting looking category from the temporary category lists
Take a quick look if all the images are about the same topic
Move all the images to the topic category.
- Use your own bot to move the images (for example pywikipedia, category.py -from:<temp category name> -to:<topic category name>)
- Use CommonsDelinker to move the images. Add {{Move cat|Temporary category name|Topic category name}} to here (admins) or here (other users)
- Add {{Move|Real category name}} to the temporary category so someone with a bot can take care of it

Categorize by image

Enable hotcat (preferences → gadgets → Tools for categories → Hotcat), you need it
Replace all temporary categories by topic categories
- Not every temporary category has to be replaced by a topic category. If a temporary category is not useful, just remove it.
