Proposal
[edit]I propose that a process be created on WikiCommons similar to that found on English Wikipedia called w:en:WP:FFU "Files for Upload", that helps users upload files to Commons, such as unregistered or new users, or people who are intimidated by the upload process. This would be a multilingual interface, so that it would work for non-English projects as well, giving those Wikipedias without their own FFUs, a place to request uploads. COM:Files for upload perhaps would be the base name.

Discussion
[edit]In principle I'm always in favour of providing more ways to help users. There certainly may be some potential for helping users to upload files by doing it for them, when those files are already online (it's not very good if the files are offline, provided by email etc). And if other projects (especially those which don't have local uploads) would like to have something like this on Commons that they can point their users to, that's a definite plus (some evidence of that would be nice).
There is, for the moment, Commons:Upload help, so I would be tempted to integrate upload requests into that, with an additional link that uses a separate preload/editintro aimed at requests. (If the board gets too busy, it can always be split later.) Rd232 (talk) 21:49, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Some people are surely dissuaded by the need to make a username and password before uploading anything. This could make it possible for casual contributors to participate more fully. If the files added this way would be looked over by someone with a modicum of experience and would be added to categories that are at least somewhat appropriate, it could actually be less chaotic than what goes on already. - Well people can use w:en:WP:FFU to get files uploaded to commons. However if requests are not in English, they may not get a response. Also the scope for commons differs from Wikipedia so uploaders there may be reluctant to upload without a defined use. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:05, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
