Wasiul Bahar

Rationale, discussion and results

[edit]

Reason: I was first suspecting of sockpuppetry when I came across Commons:Featured media candidates/File:Lumen Sapientiae.webm. If you notice, in the comments of the candidacy, I commented in response to Towhidul's comment "This vote is highly likely meat puppetry, closing admin, please note that this user attends the college that is shown in this video." If you look at their userpage, it will reveal they went to the college in question. I had a suspicion they may be involved in sock puppetry, but nothing concrete at that point, only highly likely meatpuppetry. You will also notice that Mehediabedin also voted on the FM nomination. I had almost nothing concrete that they were involved, but still a minute amount of suspicion at this point, with the only evidence being they spoke bengali, the same as the aforementioned two users. Then today I came across Commons:Featured media candidates/File:Cute tribal chak girl singing bangla song adorably.webm and became even more suspicious. A video, of someone speaking in Bengali, was posted by a user who also seems to speak bengali. And approximately 4 hours later, a fellow bengali, Wasiul supported it. Nobody in their right mind would support this for FM, unless they have exactly no idea what the qualifications to be FM are. The technical features of the video are extremely low quality. Wasiul already knew about this high bar of quality as evident from a FMC he previously posted (aforementioned one named "Lumen Sapientiae") where on account of color and content, it seeming has been voted down (though no decision regarding consensus has been made yet). So the idea of him not knowing the criteria has been ruled out. What other explanation is left? Possible sock puppetry or meat puppetry. After today's encounter, I decided to run the Editor Interaction Analyser tool on Wasiul and his suspected puppets. What the tool showed was telling to say the least. In the case of Wasiul and Mong it showed them having an insanely close edit time in 6/8 of Mong's edits throughout his entire account history. When I used the tool on Wasiul and Towhidul it also showed a extremely large amount of edits on the same page within a day. Keep in mind that Towhidul only has 149 edits, and quite a large portion are similar with Wasiul. Finally, I ran the tool on Wasiul and Mehediabedin. This is by far the most active of the alleged socks. With almost 4000 edits, this is an active user. But the amount of similar edits within a day or two are sheerly gargantuan. Even if one had similar interests, running into one another this amount of times is insane. It's statistically extremely unlikely. Thank you! Sea Cow (talk) 02:15, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wasiul Bahar and Mong 30414 are  Technically indistinguishable. The others did not appear in that check, but were not themselves checked as the evidence provided, minimal and buried in this wall of text, appears limited to interaction tool output. This may be helpful in some circumstances, but editors each with multiple year tenures and tens of thousands of edits would be expected to have heavy overlap if sharing a subject matter interest. If a check is desired, additional specific evidence supporting a connection should be provided (and in a lucid, readily digestible manner). Эlcobbola talk 22:20, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really hurt that my language, my nationality, my college or my other form of identity can be a topic of suspicion of sock puppetry. No, I won't consider it to be racism or hatred towards any particular group of people, nor will I believe that this is the regular practice in commons.
@Elcobbola, please have a look at this conversation.
Yes, all of these people go to the same college, speak the same language, wear the same uniform, go to college at the same time, return home the same time, live in the same time zone, in fact most of them live within just one kilometre of perimeter of the college, a lot of them live in the same student hostel, all of them were introduced to wikimedia through the same outreach event. Find more about these people in this, this, this and this images.
But you missed something, mate. 1. Mehedi Abedin is a regular bnwiki editor and don't have the least relation to this depicted group of people who have a lot of things in common. 2. Mong isn't a native Bangla speaker, he is the member of South Asia's one of the most endangered tribes. And most surprisingly, 3. I'm not a student of the depicted college, I read in Dhaka College and these guys are my friends.
You know, it hurts when your national, linguistic and other forms of identities become target of suspicion. It really hurts. Wasiul Bahar (talk) 05:20, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've not missed anything, nor have I offered "suspicion" of "national, linguistic and other forms of identities". You appear not to have actually read the comments to which you've replied, or indeed to be aware that meatpuppetry (" these guys are my friends") is abusive use of multiple accounts. I have unblocked Wasiul Bahar, as per information I received by email. I believe they are in good faith, and the votes on FMC are newbies' mistakes. I suggest they avoid voting for each other's nominations in the future. Yann (talk) 21:24, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
