Hello! I wish to ask adminship on Wikimedia Commons.

In general I'm working on Commons and Wikipedia about 1,5 years and have made more than 3800 edits on RuWiki and near 200 manual edits and uploads here (not including bot uploading). Some pictures have been drawn (or shot) by me, and two of them were selected as POD. You can see the full list of my pictures here (sorry, the text comments are in Russian).

From April till July of this year I have prepared and uploaded about 2500 vector-images.com images of the coats of arms and flags of the Russian cities using the special program created by me. Preliminary having discussed this question, I used names in conformity with the standard conventions. During this work I have found many duplicates with other images loaded earlier by other users. This images was uploaded using the different name conventions, some of them do not have correct license information and so on. And now I wish to reorder all of this images, delete duplicates and make some other expected tasks.

In additition, when this work will be done, I'm planning to replace my own images with their vector versions and further to continue work of the administrator where it is required. Maybe I do not have valuable contributions to Commons maintenance pages as requred at the top of this page, but I do such tasks on RuWiki very often ([1], [2] and many other). In case of the positive decision, I'm ready to study all the rules concerning new administartive tools before using them and observe this rules very accurately.

  4.  Comment It really is true that if you use the admin tools much, your active productivity will very much decrease. So since you don't plan to do much maintenance I'm not too clear how you require admin tools? Deleting duplicates is not that much... they can be tagged {{Superseded}} or {{Duplicate}} or {{Badname}}. I'm sure you're a trustworhthy user... but I think maybe we need more admins who are more actively connected to the community rather than looking after their own pet projects. We also need people to look after their own pet projects, I'm just not sure we need those people to be admins. --pfctdayelise (translate?) 03:58, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Using of tags is too slowly here... :) --Morpheios Melas 05:54, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your comment, it was wery important for me. I have tried to put a picture on removal, but this process is too long here (from requestig to the fact of the real deletion). I'm ready to do the admin work and I have some ideas to make the Commons better besides my pet projects. My "pet" project is a beginning which I must finish at the first time. I'm doing such maintenance work on RuWiki, but the main obstacle for me here was uncertainty in my English which I trying to overcome now. --Panther 06:18, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I urge you not to speedy delete your own images but have someone else do that for you. You have donated images to Commons and it is not your personal choice to remove them. Siebrand 14:57, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm planning to speedy delete only the absolutely identical images having non-standart or incorrect names (example). It has occured because other users had made ealier uploads from the vector-images site not using the today naming recommendations. The second is a changed filenaming by vector-images since the last uploading (see this and this). I'm planning only this task inside of my "pet" project, not more. And this is not the only reason of my request, this is only the first step I should make to finish the work had begun by me. As was written in my previous messages, further I'm planning to do the other expected maintenance tasks using my ruwiki experience. The sysop rights are not a fetish for me, but the essential tool now (and, of course, the great responsibility), and if I shall understand, that during any moment it had turned to a useless decoration, I shall necessarily ask to remove it. --Panther 07:51, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your clarification. Siebrand 14:36, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  5.  Support From this request it seems like Panther will not abuse the tools at all and can potentially be very helpful. We have only 3 Russian-speaking admins so another definitely will be good. Although I don't share the obsessive need for correct spelling and capitalisation in image titles, it is a harmless trait. :) --pfctdayelise (translate?) 11:29, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  6.  Support However overlook over users activity who came from RU:WP (especially newbies) will be big plus. Unfortunately understanding of copyright law is not a strongest side of people from ex-USSR. --EugeneZelenko 14:52, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  8.  Support; I have met Panter's images and cathegories though I'm not too active particularly at Commons. I have a good impression on his works. Considering his contributions in ru-wiki, it seems he could be a good admin here. Drbug 15:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  9. Support. Panther is very hard involved in work with pictures in ru_wiki and Russia-related stuff in Commons. Sysop status for him will help all of us a lot. I hope he will become a very useful member of Commons community as well. MaxiMaxiMax 15:06, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
