Avowedly out of COM:SCOPE user-generated fantasy flags ("fictional flag" and "made by me"); violations of COM:NOTHOST, COM:SELFIE, COM:EV. A realistic educational purpose is a policy requirement for all Commons files. All files with no such purpose must be deleted: "Wikimedia Commons is not your personal free web host". The uploader requested most of these files' deletion (Commons:Deletion_requests/Fictional_flags_or_symbols) but they were kept (without explanation and) without justification or reference to why policy should be ignored. The uploader admitted they were "Flags or symbols personally made by me. I was aware that sometimes they lead to misunderstanding that they are being used by authorities or they are notable." These self-made artworks are out of scope, and where in (very limited) use, a hoax.

Keep There was recently a contest in Northern Ireland for a new flag. The separation of Scotland is also a serious possibility at this point, making any such changes to the Union Flag in scope as well. Fry1989 eh? 00:13, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ludicrous and irrelevant. None of these images are related to any such competition (no evidence has been presented that any such competition was ever held, were that to have been somehow relevant ...) and the idea a potential for flag changes automatically makes infinite variations on flags inherently within Commons' scope can only be a joke. Crystal ball-gazing does not justify filling Commons with everyone's favourite redesign of whatever images their heart desires. As policy does say: "Wikimedia Commons is not your personal free web host" and the uploader confesses, these are "Flags or symbols personally made by me" and therefore avowed violations of policy, and contrary to the baseless comment made above, entirely out of scope. The contest was public, but if you insist, [1]. A contest does not need to be held by a government authority to be relevant, and proposals such as File:St Patrick Northern Ireland Flag.png were submitted. In regards to Scotland, it is a very real possibility that Scotland will leave the Union, it's not just speculation at this point. Calling this crystal balling is dismissing the seriousness of the situation. Fry1989 eh? 14:34, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is speculation and it is miles out of scope. Making up pretend flags is not made somehow justifiable by claiming that made-up flags are all inherently plausible ("proposals such as") and serious because you have seen them in your crystal ball ("a very real possibility that Scotland will leave the Union"). Again, it is very faulty logic to claim that these files should not be deleted simply because dozens of other (different) made-up non-serious flags appeared on a webpage once. For clarity, the File:St Patrick Northern Ireland Flag.png design was not one of those among the 77 images on the Belfast Telegraph webpage from 2013 ("recent! …"); the image was in any case uploaded in 2006 and a write-in to a local news outlet ("competition") in 2013 is a very inadequate excuse for hosting this non-notable self-made artwork which had nothing to do with it. Deleted: per nomination. Agree with nominator that fantasy flags are not in scope just because it was submitted to some contest. --P 1 9 9   00:00, 7 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Restored: as per [2]. Yann (talk) 18:13, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
