- Frank Holl's painting of Sir Thomas Martineau was done in 1887. Please add that to the information Thanks203.132.68.1 00:24, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- Keep the portrait of Martineau. Holl died in 1888, so this should be fine. - Jmabel ! talk 01:45, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- And I think we can keep File:Queen Victoria's visit to Birmingham with Sir Thomas Martineau. Mayor of Birmingham (center) 1887.jpg as well. It's from 1887, I presume that even with an unknown author that is old enough (130 years) to presume PD, no? - Jmabel ! talk 01:49, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- Keep - the first one has no copyrights anymore, the second one (the newspaper) is questionable, but it's very old and I think old enough, so if it is kept, it's fine by me. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 11:20, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

- Comment This one is particularly tricky, since I cannot even find the image on the source page given in the description, whether live or in the WayBackMachine. The description gives a 1927 date, but also includes a newspaper snippet dated 1942. If it has been first published in the US sense in 1942, it would certainly still be protected in the US until 2038. If it has been published anonymously in the UK (whether in 1927 or 1942) and it has been published in the American sense in 1927, then it would be fine since this year. Currently, though, I can't verify those assumptions. Felix QW (talk) 17:41, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

- This is the worst problem. It says it's 3 July 2022 upload by the uploader which would be perfectly fine if we trust the uploader about it. The Exif metadata seems to match that story. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 22:36, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- Comment The photo is probably by the uploader, but the text may be sufficiently complex to attract copyright, and would then not be covered by Australian FoP. Felix QW (talk) 22:38, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

- Keep We could relicense this PD-old-assumed, in my opinion. The subject was 67 in 1900, so the dating seems reasonable enough, and as a formal studio portrait it should be considered published by US law quite close to its creation date. Felix QW (talk) 10:03, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

- @Fivebills: Please propose a license for these files. Family photographs may not have been published until recently, so it could be an issue. Yann (talk) 18:40, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- Delete unless licensing is fixed Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 18:53, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- Comment: I was going through these individually precisely because this is too complex a mess to do in a single discussion. A lot of these are old but a number are just plain confusing to determine. I don't think I would support a wholesale deletion of these files but perhaps tag them all with Template:wrong license and review them. The uploader definitely needs to be warned and stopped from uploading new images until they work on these though. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 21:01, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, the objective is not deletion, but fixing the license, whenever it is possible. However I am not sure all these are in the public domain. I did fix the license that for easy cases. Here are the remaining ones. Input from the uploader could help. Yann (talk) 22:32, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- "Deletion requests" may be our best option though lol :) @Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ): , not all of your comments in this history ended up with signatures so this thread is already becoming what I feared. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 22:32, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
