Uploader is not the author of the source book(s); someone called "Deschiens" is (and they may or may not be the copyright holder of the photos). I can find no author data for "Deschiens", nor any way to contact the uploader who is not active since February. So there is no way to know if {{PD-Old-100}} applies. Therefore the images must be deleted per COM:PRP.

Keep The book was published in 1911.[8] (archive [9]) Thincat (talk) 21:33, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What matters is when the author died. See {{PD-old-100}}. Rd232 (talk) 21:49, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well maybe it is the wrong tag. I go by this which suggests PD for works published before 1923. Thincat (talk) 22:12, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Some of these images are not as described above, File:Paul Georges Dieulafoy.jpg, for example was uploaded by User:Materialscientist, an admin and active editor here who says he reviews for copyright violations. He states of the image "The National Library of Medicine believes this item to be in the public domain." but I do not know on what basis this is claimed or whether NLM are correct. Another matter, File:Consiglio de "l'Acadèmie de Mèdicine de Paris".jpg is probably of an etching(?) done in 1862 so the artist almost certainly died before 1942. But wait! If he died while in service for France, Mort pour la France, in the Great War it would still be in copyright in France today.[10] On the other hand, if the artist was uncredited and otherwise unknown the work would be PD even in France. These are worthwhile portraits so we should try and save them if we legitimately can. I think they are worth considering individually. Thincat (talk) 00:11, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep all. All these images can be found here and some here, and I know no better sources for this image set. I added authors where available, and believe for others the author is unknown, i.e. {{PD-EU-no author disclosure}} (all photos are from Europe). Given the publication date of 1905-1908 (or earlier) and death dates, I see no major concerns. I also have confidence in NIH and their statement "The National Library of Medicine believes this item to be in the public domain." because I've cross-checked many dozens of their images months ago and found the don't put this tag easily.
