Commercial advertisement, SPAM: out of project scope.

Ies (talk) 07:11, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Ies: Hmm.. Cant the advertisement be cropped out and they still be useful to illustrate marriage clothing/uses in India?-- Darwin Ahoy! 12:18, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Darvin: The images were clearly created and published for advertising reasons as you can learn from their descriptions. This is a perfect reason for a speedy delition. See Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion#General reasons#10. -- Ies (talk) 13:11, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to me that pertains to content uploaded to promote goods and services. I see no reason to delete these images. Chico Venancio (talk) 15:27, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Ies: I believe that what matters to Commons is the usefulness of the files, not the motive why they were created. If they are useful and educative, the files should be kept indeed (with the adv. cropped out, of course).-- Darwin Ahoy! 22:04, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Changing description and cropping seems to be enough.—Teles «Talk to me ˱C L @ S˲» 22:55, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The delition rule (linked above) says "This includes only content uploaded to promote goods and services, outside our project scope". So it's the motivation to promote goods and services that here counts primarily, not the usefullness. The current case doesn't differ from the advertisement for drugs and other stuff that is uploaded to Commons again and again. Also these images were useful - if the images were cropped and if the advertising watermarks were retouched and if the advertising texts were removed etc. However, this never happens. The advertising images always get deleted acc. to the Commons policies and so the story ends. I really can't understand why you now make a big difference between advertisement and advertisement. -- Ies (talk) 06:54, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That is why we can upload a cropped version with no promotional content or motivation. If we remove the watermarks - which are the promotional content -, the promotion claim doesn't prevail. We can't remove valid content only because someone wanted to make a promotion of it at first place, even though there is no promotion anymore.—Teles «Talk to me ˱C L @ S˲» 15:51, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The rule speaks to content uploaded to promote. DarwIn certainly did not upload these to promote an Indian photographer. Neither did I create a tool to import photos from 500px to promote that. The rule is there as a proxy for out of scope images, and I don't see how you're citing a speedy deletion rule in a deletion request, it seems not even you believe the rule applies.
It is better if we crop the promotion and edit the descriptions, but deleting these seem counter productive to our mission. Chico Venancio (talk) 15:58, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Those photos are transferred from flickr. Almost every photo is already uploaded by active editor User:NahidHossain Those photos are duplicate.
