Photos rather than data display in Category:Unreviewed photos of GODL-India (group of several images, out of 12 863)

[edit]

how do we know that "b. Data that the data provider(s) is not authorized to license, that is data that is non-shareable and/or sensitive;" exclusion is not applying? That is why GODL requires license to be clearly marked - because without that omnipotence is required to know whether this (or some other exclusion) is applying

Also, it is an invalid license use, claimed license is for data (including graphic representation of data) - not for photos. See "“Data” means a representation of information4, numerical compilations and observations, documents, facts, maps, images, charts, tables and figures, concepts in digital and/or analog form, and includes metadata,5 that is all information about data, and/or clarificatory notes provided by data provider(s), without which the data concerned cannot be interpreted or used.6" in license text

Some of these images are from the official twitter account of the Indian Army. The copyright policy of the Indian Army website is here [1] The twitter account, using logic, is an extension of the website. Akk7a (talk) 13:04, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The other images are from the Indian Navy website [2] and should probably be using the template {{Indian navy}}. Akk7a (talk) 13:14, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Copyright policy of the Indian Army website start from "Material featured on this site" so it does not apply to Twitter. Also, not sure about "This is subject to the material being reproduced accurately and not being used in a derogatory manner or in a misleading context." restriction anyway Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 15:49, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Akk7a: Are you aware of any policy applying to their Twitter postings? What you linked starts from "Material featured on this site" - is there anything covering Twitter there? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 08:13, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
{{Indian navy}} is quite confusing - is it applying to all materials produced by Indian Navy? Some subset? Publications on some websites like indiannavy.nic.in? Is it overriding "© Since 1999. All Rights Reserved." in footer of for example https://indiannavy.nic.in/node/27254 ? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 15:51, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Akk7a: Do you have any idea to what {{Indian navy}} can be applied? I would help with it but I have no idea at all to which content it is applicable. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 08:13, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Mateusz Konieczny and Akk7a, it applies to "work[s] created by the Indian Navy and [] present at https://indiannavy.nic.in/, so the works needs to be made by the Indian Navy and present at https://indiannavy.nic.in/ to qualify. And this overrules any "All rights reserved" footnote. --Matr1x-101Pinging me doesn't hurt! {user - talk? - useless contributions} 20:47, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: the licensing with a "data" license is incorrect. The images from website indian navy can be kept according to the discussion and the VRT ticket. The other images are deleted as the source is a twitter account or other indian government websites. --Ellywa (talk) 18:49, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

logos/insignia apparently excluded by claimed license

[edit]

Claimed license does not apply AT ALL. Note that "c. Names, crests, logos and other official symbols of the data provider(s); (...) e. Military insignia;" are explicitly excluded and not covered by this license.

Note - Help:VisualFileChange.js updated this page instead of creating new one. Let me know if that was a misuse of that tool (still, likely better than a new separate entry for every single image with the same reason) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 18:56, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose for File:BRICS India 2021 logo.svg - The logo is a simple geometrical shapes and text and thus is below COM:TOO / COM:TOO India threshold. As such it should be updated to PD-logo license and a better quality version from [3] be uploaded. I haven't checked other files, but will do so in a couple of days -- DaxServer (talk) 17:10, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
