Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Statue of Taras Shevchenko in Luhansk
In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for 70 years after the death of the creator. An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). Unfortunately there is no applicable FOP exception in Ukraine.

- Oppose at least the following, as they fall under the Ukrainian copyright exemption for current events. This provision is broad, see Commons:Village_pump/Copyright/Archive/2013/12#Ukrainian_copyright_law_current_events_provision, is centered around depiction of a current event (and not use) and is essentially a version of COM:DM meaning that depiction of a copyrighted object for illustration of a current event is always de minimis:
- File:Ukrainian Independence Day in Luhansk.jpg. This photo depicts celebrations of the Independence Day of Ukraine which is a notable holiday, and this is one of the best depictions available on Commons, used in over 10 versions to illustrate celebrations, like en:Independence Day of Ukraine, fr:Jour de l'Indépendance (Ukraine), uk:День Незалежності України etc.
- File:Euromaidan in Luhansk.jpg. This photo illustrates Euromaidan protests in Luhansk which were a notable 2013 event and is used e.g. in uk:Євромайдан у регіонах України.
- File:Taras Skevchenko Luhansk.png. This photo illustrates protest of Viktor Yanukovych supporters which was a notable 2004-05 event and is used e.g. in uk:Вибори Президента України 2004.
- In all of these photos it is not possible to depict the ongoing events otherwise because Taras Shevchenko statue in Luhansk is the main location ofr such celebrations in the city of Luhansk. In all cases photos fall under Ukrainian current events provision — Nick UA (talk) 07:12, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose I agree with Nick UA. It is obvious the monument in the photos is the secondary object. The most important thing is the events taking place around the monument. — Rasal Hague (talk) 13:42, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Deleted: Cropped out the statue in one, deleted the rest since current event exception is the equivilent of fair use, which is not acceptable for Commons. (EDIT: Decided to undelete one so it could be cropped and kept) --Abzeronow (talk) 18:56, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- I've cropped out the statue in another one --Butko (talk) 19:58, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
