There is no evidence that Colombian coins are free for any reason or that the engravers died before 1933.

All Colombian coins are with permission granted to its use by the Bank of the republic
http://www.banrepcultural.org/prensa/permisos

That permission doesn't allow derivative works and it is unclear whether it applies to money in the first case, but for other things such as photos of the central bank building and artworks in it. It also seems that at least newspapers need to ask for authorisation before they can use such photos. --Stefan4 (talk) 13:52, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stefan4, What do you suggest in order to preserve the images of the coins, instead of being deleted? I dont know how to deal with this. Sorry for the previous deletions of the template. --Dannybalanta (talk) 23:35, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You need permission from the copyright holder. The copyright holder is normally either the engraver or the central bank. --Stefan4 (talk) 23:37, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notification. I'm OK with deletion - I wasn't aware of the copyright status. --Slashme (talk) 09:12, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The copyright holder in this case is the Bank of the Republic, but I believe they only assert that over the designs and not the product. That's to say that it is the use of the designs that is prohibited, not images of the actual money. Otherwise I have no issue with the deletions. --Pete Angritt (talk)
Further to Pete's comment above: As per COM:CUR Colombia: "There is no further information provided about the legality of photographic reproductions or similar." If there is no law prohibiting this, then we have the right to do reproduce images of the coins. But no vote either way, because I'm no expert on this. --P 1 9 9   13:53, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Comment @P199: I'm absolutely surprised. It works always in the opposite way. By default (Berne Convention), everything is under copyright (talking about creative works) and there must be a law creating an exception for this. If no exception has been enacted, we don't have the right to create derivative works. What am I missing? --Discasto talk 15:41, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that the statement that the Colombian central bank "asserts intellectual property over the website's designs and trademarks" covers the provisions of the Berne Convention... --P 1 9 9   16:43, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Per the inquiry I made and mentioned above, images of Colombian monetary bills and coins issued by the Banco de la República can be posted to Wikimedia if not altered or used as counterfeit currency. The design used on the bills and money cannot be used independently from complete images of the bills or coins, but are allowed as long as they only appear in unaltered images of those coins and bills.

. The files deleted and pending deletion should be reviewed and restored if they meet those guidelines. --Pete Angritt (talk)

Deleted: Not allowed to alter image, that's not ok on Commons. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 19:38, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
