Files in Category:Banknotes of Colombia, 2018-03-29

[edit]

These images are bank notes from Colombia. The authority that designs and produces them is the Banco de la Republica (https://www.banrep.gov.co) (Bank of the Republic of Colombia). The Bank asserts copyright and that all rights are reserved in their legal notice on their website [1]. It does not include any other terms or conditions to suggest that there is free use, reproduction or modification permitted of bank note designs. Colombian copyright law does not include any exemption for government works, and makes no specific exemption for currency (COM:CRT#Colombia).

Historically, our page Commons:Currency has no section on Colombia, however, there have been a variety of discussions on Commons since 2007 regarding this country's currency. Most deletion debates concerning banknotes have been closed as Delete (April 2012, March 2007, 2013, August 2016). One debate (in March 2007 for a variety of banknotes and coins) was closed as Keep despite mixed debate. A 2012 village pump discussion queried why there was no Commons:Currency section, and there were suggestions that the banknote images should have been deleted. Following the outcome of this nomination, I will write a section for Commons:Currency, although it is now clear that the images are not OK for Commons regardless.

This nomination includes the two sets of bank notes currently in circulation: the 1995-2001 series, and the 2014-2015 series. I am not yet making comment on earlier bank note sets, or coins, although I welcome discussion on those.

Some of these images even cite the Bank's "all rights reserved" status in their page descriptions, suggesting that the uploaders knew it was inappropriate to include them on Commons, but did so anyway.
