This is NOT a 16th century painting, but a modern (most likely 21st century) copy of an old painting. The "copy" differs noticeably from the original however, so this painting is original enough IMO to be protected by copyright. As the painter isn't dead, the painting therefore isn't in the public domain. Rosenzweig τ 17:21, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
Keep the authorship of Christian Goller and NOT a 16th century paintingseems to be disputed and part of further investigations. So we can only discuss about the DR if the facts are clear after the official court decision is held. see Commons:Forum#Löschanträge für Kunstfälschungen von Christian Goller--Oursana (talk) 18:49, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
- The Precautionary principle says otherwise: “where there is significant doubt about the freedom of a particular file it should be deleted.” I'd say there is significant doubt. --Rosenzweig τ 21:33, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
- What are the facts to justify significant doubts ? You cannot assume Goller as author of the painting.--Oursana (talk) 17:09, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
- Why not? The Süddeutsche Zeitung says so and apparently Goller was even credited as the artist in the catalog of the 2014 auction where this painting was offered. And even if it's not Goller, it is pretty sure the author is a contemporary artist who is either alive or not yet dead for at least 70 years. Either way the painting is not in the public domain. --Rosenzweig τ 19:26, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

- There is no evidence that the painting was painted by Goller. Jackson's International Auctioneers has the painting among followers of Cranach I offered. With this name, the image was also uploaded and it was later renamed by someone in „Christian Goller - Madonna mit Kind unter einem Apfelbaum.jpg“. --Trzęsacz (talk) 23:23, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
- This is not a criminal trial. We don't need evidence, significant doubt suffices. And from what I've written above it should be pretty clear that there is significant doubt. See the Süddeutsche Zeitung article for details. --Rosenzweig τ 22:26, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
- I deny if significant doubts are sufficient, and second I do not see these doubts. Precautionary principle just gives different examples. And Süddeutsche says unter seinem Namen= under the name, and Da hat irgendjemand einen Fehler gemacht, dass das Bild unter dem Namen Christian Goller in den Verkauf kam= Somebody has made a mistake that the painting was sold under the name of Christian Goller. see Commons:Forum#Löschanträge für Kunstfälschungen von Christian Goller--Oursana (talk) 21:32, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
- As I have written several times by now: Even if it's not by Goller, it's by somebody else from the 20th or 21st century. If you don't see the doubt here, that's too bad for you, because it is quite plain and open. And, by the way, it is not your call to "deny if significant doubts are sufficient". They are as per Commons policy. --Rosenzweig τ 23:01, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
