These characters are all under copyright per Commons:Character copyrights. Even if incidental elements of the film are public-domain because of release by the US government, the characters are not. SnowyCinema (talk) 10:56, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- Comment You may be correct, but I'd like to see more specific information/similar cases. All of the characters in that chart are cartoons, not live action, and Batman is not listed. What is the violation? That actors are dressed as the characters (but cosplay is apparently allowed?) The outfits? Calling themselves with the terms "Batman", "Robin", and "Batgirl"? Wondering, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 18:28, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Infrogmation: If I recall right, I think there was some court case surrounding some fanfiction stories (purely textual stories that is) using the Sherlock Holmes character, because of the use of Holmes's "likeness" from copyrighted stories. (These should be fine now because of the "no matter what" principle, because I think all the original Holmes stories are public domain now regardless of their situation then.) So, I feel like the use of Batman, Robin, etc. in this ad count as "using their likeness" in that context. SnowyCinema (talk) 04:43, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

- Keep This is a parody which is entitled to the First Amendment protection and to the parody copyright exception. Put in other words, the parodied Batman situation adds something new and gives it a different purpose and character. — Racconish 💬 07:58, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
