mapNORTH
icons: inconsistently sized, and not as clear as the replacement set. Useddenim (talk) 03:40, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Keep if only for the more sensible naming. If some editor wished to improve the image, there is an other route for that. -DePiep (talk) 20:27, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oh dear. Looks like this is part of a dont-talk-just-push-it-aside battle. [1], then just one week later this [2]. And still: this being a "number" (or "text") instead of a map symbol with a common name is unclear. -DePiep (talk) 23:52, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Delete, per nom. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 14:57, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Tuvalki for your great, great argument. -DePiep (talk) 02:21, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment: The filenames of the mentioned alternatives, of the type "
BS_numNnnn.svg
" are common with other litteral and cypheral such icons. The misleading preffix "num
" is due to its history, first used for digits, but the overall schematicism of the whole filename relativizes its misleadingness.
- On the other hand, the filename of the subjects of this deletion request, "
BS_mapNORTHnnndeg.svg
", are not less cryptic in their whole, and needlessly add yet another two icon IDs under BS: one that’s unproductive for its narrow scope ("NORTH
"), and another that’s tautological and redundant ("map
"). - -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 15:52, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- I don't get your rant exactly. But anyway & ever: the North arrow is a map symbol, not a number thing. I wonder why you did not reply tho this clear fact, anywhere. So we keep the logical name, because of course it is a map symbol. I can't argue against a "it was a number" reasoning. Pleasssse. -DePiep (talk) 02:16, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
- @DePiep: You seem to be missing the point.
mapNORTH
as an icon root is redundant and too restrictive (after all, we don't have files calledBSicon_ROOT_icon
, for obvious reasons), andnum
as a root is similar toSTR
(STRaight) also being used for turns. Useddenim (talk) 10:59, 20 August 2015 (UTC) - You seem to be missing the point -- no, not me. Someone else does. (In short: it is not ever a numeric or textual thing). It is a map graph. Fits nicely in the system, btw. But hey, who am I to say "you" don't understand it. -DePiep (talk) 01:43, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

- Comment: Before deleting, pls note that (
mapNORTH000deg
) is in use in two wp:en pages. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 16:25, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- Of course not. Because you keep diverting. Tyhanks for the smart argument. DePiep (talk) 01:40, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- Not anymore. All clear for deletion, then, concerning files in use. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 16:32, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- Abuse. Someone, even you, removing those links is not an argument for deletion. I claim that you, Tuválkin, are abusing the deletion process. -DePiep (talk) 02:19, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
- That's not abuse, it's consolidation, and hardly the first time that similar-looking and functionally-identical icons have been replaced. Useddenim (talk) 10:59, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
- "have been replaced" is a friendly word for "being shuffed aside". But hey, why would you criticise your RDT friend? Being coherent is not what you all are about, is it. I claim that the earlier names are more useful than the post-created (offensively) names. So far for making friends. -DePiep (talk) 01:49, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- You do realize that you are supposed to be debating the merits of these icons, don't you? Personal attacks and ranting are just going to prejudice other editors against what little justification you can muster for keeping these icons. Useddenim (talk) 03:28, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

- (File usage is also a reason why deletion of this set is a better alternative than fixing its geometry problems: While only one among the eight icons of this deletion request has had any use in WMF projects, the alternative set has use for all eight icons, the least used being (
numN225
), with 8 uses.) -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 16:25, 13 August 2015 (UTC)- "File usage is a reason": no, it is not since you are abusing the system. -DePiep (talk) 02:04, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment. Years ago I created the RDT for both Suez Canal and Panama Canal. Quite difficult, done it, thank you. I remember from these days that I never go any support from those brave RDT icon masters. Never ever. And now they show up here to tell me what a BS should look like and should be named like? No thanks. Twits you are. -DePiep (talk) 01:58, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- IIRC, DePiep, the criticism was directed towards your arbitrary naming that didn't follow the conventions of icons that didn't fit with the accepted geometry. There was never any criticism of the effort that went in to the diagrams themselves (except for your insistence on calling them “maps”). BTW, what's with the Yoda grammar? Useddenim (talk) 03:28, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
- The statement that DePiep had no feedback or help from the other users and creators of BSicons is blatantly false, as the publicly available discussions show very clearly. Also, while having authored 2 really good RDTs is enough to be allowed a lot by my book, others may not be so unconcerned by the namecalling. I, for one, was once blocked for one week due to much less. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 23:15, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
