Herbythyme for checkuser (second nomination)
I would like to nominate Herbythyme (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log) for checkuser rights on Commons. Herby became an administrator here on Commons in mid February, 2007, ( his request for Adminship ) successfully, and previously stood for CU in late March, 2007, ( his request for CheckUser ) but decided to withdraw. I believe he withdrew because we had just selected two new CheckUsers, Gmaxwell and myself, and because he felt that perhaps he was not well known enough yet for the community to extend the trust that is required for this position, rather than due to any actual issue (he was unopposed at the time, with one neutral).
Since that time Herby has continued to work very hard as an contributor here: (his contributions) , and as an admin (his logs). As SB_Johnny said at the time of his first nomination, Herby is an experienced checkuser, holding the right on WikiBooks, and is someone that can be relied on to do the job efficiently, with aplomb and discretion. He is especially active in crosswiki work, often bringing thorny items to the attention of many of the rest us to help resolve. He also is one of the folk on the CheckUser mailing list that approves new CheckUser access to the list, showing that the Foundation has a high regard for his trustworthiness.
As Johnny said then, and as I have said myself (when Herby nominated me for CheckUser on meta) it is good to have a core of hardworking and trustworthy checkusers, and especially ones that have the role on multiple wikis, to deal with the most complex cases. Gmaxwell has recently given up his adminship, which can be a bit of a disadvantage to effective CheckUsering, and I sometimes need to take a short break as well, so I think adding another CheckUser here at this time would be a prudent thing to do. I cannot think of anyone I'd rather see in the position than Herby and I hope that you will join me in supporting him in this candidacy. ++Lar: t/c 00:03, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Acceptance - Thanks for the nomination Larry & I accept. These rights are to be used with great care but they are to be used. I have spent some time recently dealing with cross wiki vandalism (usually the "bottle" or "on wheels" varieties). Making use of various resources including CU logs it is possible to assist wikis who may not have as many users to deal with such problems. Larry has been extremely helpful in this as have some stewards. Having the rights here can only help. Equally with Gmaxwell inactive at present and Larry looking for a break it does seem sensible to seek these rights for a limited number of active users. I would consider myself active here on Commons and would be pleased to help with this. As with my other Rf* here and elsewhere, if I am inactive for a period of three months I will request removal of any rights I have - if I fail to do this, this statement may be used to seek their removal from the stewards --Herby talk thyme 10:17, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

- Support I've observed the nom since his last rfcu and feel very comfortable supporting him. There is a need for several active CU on Commons, also. FloNight 12:28, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

- Support per nom. Er... AS nom! Note: I'm not going away permanently... but we do need more CUs here so the load is shared. ++Lar: t/c 15:39, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

- OK - it has been said a couple of times so .... I have no plans to leave Commons in the foreseeable future - I might as well irritate folk here as elsewhere! AND at least if I do go you can remove the rights quicker than for anyone else! --Herby talk thyme 18:35, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

- Support Herby is thoughtful, careful and trustworthy. He's also experienced with CU. The only thing is I will be sad when he disappears down the Commons CU black hole in a few months. ;) --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 04:33, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

As this has been open a week and has received over the 25 support votes required I have requested these rights on Meta. My thanks to all who felt able to support me. I hope I will be able to use these to assist Commons for some time to come --Herby talk thyme 17:50, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
