Category:Châteaux

The name of this category is very misleading for French-speaking contributors. Yes there is a note in the description about how this differs from Category:Castles but I don't think that this is sufficient.

I suggest:

OK, I appreciate your proposals. Category:Château should become a disambiguation category were these meanings would be distinguished. The new proposed Category:Châteaux (manor houses) should be a subcat of Category:Manor houses. --Elkost (talk) 15:42, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind making Category:Château a disambiguation category. It's singular and category names on Commons are usually plural. Therefore I'm of the opinion that the category with a singular name should redirect to a category with the same name but plural.
As for the new category name, I picked "manor houses" since it's in the note as well as the English Wikipedia article. The current category should therefore already be a subcat of Category:Manor houses, not Category:Castles. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 15:48, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
 Comment Are there any castles in France that aren't châteaux? If there are, what are they called? There are plenty of fortified manor houses in the UK, for example, that are called 'castle'. Sionk (talk) 13:12, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Sionk: If my understanding is right (I'm not an English native speaker), Château fort is an example of castles in France which wouldn't be categorized in Category:Châteaux. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 13:25, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
