I hereby nominate Yasu for adminship. With more than 30,000 global edits and 23,000 local edits, Yasu is an experienced Commons user with valuable language skills in Japanese. I believe the admin team would be benefited by this addition.
Yasu has been a license reviewer and file mover since 2010. His participation to deletion requests and license reviews [1] over the years demonstrates that he has a good grasp of copyright and Commons procedures. He is one of the few editors who can effectively investigate Japanese copyright issues. See for example a sample of relevant DRs. (It's not all of them—many are left uncategorized.)
He has made thousands of edits to categories. [2] Categories can sometimes cause disagreement and contentions, but he seems to manage it well to not break things and harmonize with others. He strikes me as mellow and constructive even in disagreement—I believe we look for such attitude in administrators. whym (talk) 09:51, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
- Candidate's acceptance: I am so much honoured to have been given this opportunity and am happy to accept the nomination.
- whym has been so generous to write an almost perfect introduction, but please allow me to add some: I started contributing to Commons in as early as 2007. I have read Commons' policies and guidelines and even translated some of them into Japanese (examples: 1, 2, 3). Through this process I have learnt what Commons is all about and have been trying to make feedbacks to Japanese speaking users. I also respond to each individual questions addressed to me (examples: 4, 5). When granted the adminship, I would be interested as well in splitting inappropriately overwritten files and closing Japan-related DRs, especially FOP cases. I appreciate those who already voted, either for or against, and am open to answer further questions in case you are still in doubt. Thank you for taking your time. - Actually, it looks like the candidate did not accept yet. Let us give them time to think about it.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:53, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

- Support In my occasional dealings with this user over the years, he appears to be knowledgeable and mature in his handling of disagreements, and with nine years under his belt, he is clearly well-experienced. --DAJF (talk) 14:04, 17 January 2016 (UTC)

- Question Can we host photos of modern buildings taken in Burma, Austria and Belarus? Do you plan to help with closing deletion requests and CFD? How long undeletion requests must stay open at least? --Steinsplitter (talk) 11:44, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
- (1) Per COM:FOP, Burmese and Austrian modern buildings are allowed, whilst Belarusian ones are not.
- (2) Yes indeed. I have come across several CFDs to date and they all seemed to be quite time consuming, sometimes unnecessarily. I am always willing to help out.
- (3) As long as I understand there is no minimum requirement of how long an undeletion request must stay open. Some requests are closed within hours, especially when the deletion was done obviously by error or the request itself makes no sense at all. I myself think a week would be an adequate length of time for normal requests, but it depends. Yasu (talk) 15:02, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
- Question Could you please explain what happened with File:VOR Zeitkarte 1996.jpg which you uploaded and which was later deleted as a copyright violation? Thanks.--Ymblanter (talk) 12:34, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
- The file in question was a scan of a monthly tram ticket in Vienna. I thought the design was too simple to be copyright protected and uploaded the file, before learning that the Austrian threshold of originality is rather strict. Yasu (talk) 15:02, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
- Question Antonioanselmo123 (talk · contribs) uploaded a lot of logos, 15 of them still exist in Commons. Some of them surpass threshold of originality, some not. Please sort out copyright violations. Taivo (talk) 14:55, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
- Actually, in my humble opinion, they all seem to be on the border (or below it) of TOO. If I dare to pick one File:Radio Liderança Fortaleza.jpg could be a potential copyvio (because of how the colours are used), but actual judgement may vary between admins.
