I have been active on wikimedia commons for over a year now. I have done some patrolling on the side and there seems to be a shortage of mods. Vera (talk) 12:38, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening Vera,

Thank you for submitting your candidacy and for your participation to Wikimedia Commons. To let the community know you a little more, could you answer the following five questions? --Dereckson (talk) 17:16, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  1. In what fields will you mainly use your tools?
I will be able to help process files that have been flagged for deletion.
  1. Why do you think the best term for administrators is mods? How would you compare a bulletin board moderator and a Commons administrator?
I think they can both be used, though I would prefer mods.
On bulletin boards the moderation is often focused on obvious trolling/privacy violations. On Commons you will often find that well intending people upload copyright protected content due to the complexity of copyright law.
  1. Do you have some experiences on DR?
I've once got a letter published in a national newspaper after I corrected them on net neutrality. I'm in the process of getting a bachelor in Media Technology. A friend of mine is very involved in
I think the question was about Deletion Requests (DR). --99of9 (talk) 05:17, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, ok, DR stands for Digital Rights in my mind. Yes, I've come across some work that infringed on copyright while out categorizing. I had a big discussion last month with Belsen that got quite heated. He uploaded a lot of screenshots which made the rest of his work suspicious. I also contacted the owner of a comic writer he had asked for permission without explaining the consequences of being published on Wikipedia. This also lead to having to explain the fair use policy in place at the English Wikipedia vs. uploading to Wikipedia. I tried to make things a bit better by nominating one of is ok pictures for a valued image promotion.
I also came across the work of Sgerbic, she had uploaded some artwork and pictures of a conference where most of the picture was the screen of the presentation that contained ABC News footage. I dropped the ball a little by not explaining why those pictures were also nominated. Luckily she talked back and I was able to correct myself. We're now actually friends on facebook where I gave here some tips on how to improve Wikipedia. --Vera (talk) 07:51, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  1. What's your copyright expertise?
I've been very interested in finding out all sorts of particularities about copyright law over the past year. I've attended a lecture on copyright law at the WMNL conference last year.
  1. What do you think about freedom of panorama in Netherlands?
I think it is the best way to go about it, especially since buildings are often such a permanent form of our surroundings. --Vera (talk) 18:33, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
