W.D. Van Siclen was born in 1865 in Clearwater, Michigan. He was very prolific as an architect, working continuously for almost 60 years. He began his career in San Jose, California where he designed numerous homes and businesses from 1888 to 1900, He briefly partnered with fellow-future Seattle architect Charles Haynes in the late 1890s, relocated to Seattle from 1901 to 1911, Victoria/Vancouver, BC and Edmonton, AB from 1911 to 1914, Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1915 to 1924 and Brownsville, Texas from 1925 until his death in 1951.
