English: Vorsetzer (or push-up player)[1][2] is a machine, which takes over the key operation of an acoustic piano instead of a human pianist. The automated play is controlled by Ariston plate or piano rolls where the punched holes on these are sensed by tactile fingers or transported by means of vacuum, and converted into movements of the key sticks. Well-known manufacturers of such Vorsetzer were the Ludwig Hupfeld, A.G. and M. Welte & Söhne in Germany, Aeolian Company and American Piano Company in the United States.
