Firestops become inoperable when re-entered. Re-entry of firestops requires a building permit to comply with the local fire code and building code. Resealing must take the certification listing into account that bounds the original installation to make sure that tolerances are maintained and that all materials are compatible during a fire as well as during regular operation and will remain intact for the life of the building, considering all operating environmental conditions to which they will be exposed over the life of the building.
