The Finlaggan River originates from a network of small burns and ditches in the gradually sloping country to the north, especially the Staoisha region with Loch Staoisha. Gathering into a larger channel in the forest to the north of Loch Finlaggan, it projects into the loch opposite Eilean Mòr, where its shallows cause a marsh.
