Beamish Museum: Burnt out Stagecoach

Jump to search
There is a burnt out Victorian Stagecoach on the Beamish Museum site. It languishes burnt and abandoned in a pond, to symbolise the conflict that arose in the 1820s between horse power and the emerging steam engine technologies. It is not an original stage coach, but a later Victorian park drag which was fire damaged before being acquired by the museum for its present purpose. The pond is in the Georgian landscape, on the other side of the road that runs along the south side of St Helen’s Church (the church actually being newer than the installation).
