English: Notre-Dame de Paris is a historic Catholic cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, France. The cathedral is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture and among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world. The naturalism of its sculptures and stained glass are in contrast with earlier Romanesque architecture. Construction on the west façade began under bishop Eudes de Sully starting in 1200, by the third architect and was continued by his successors, in particular Guillaume d’Auvergne, and after 1220 by the fourth architect. The North Tower was completed in 1240 and the South tower was completed in 1250.
