[edit]Copyright status: File:Malmö logotyp.svg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Malmö logotyp.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Dear Wikimedian,
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in Round 1 of the 2022 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2022.
Round 2 will end at UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

File:Signature of Reverend Thomas Henry Sparshott (1b).svg has been marked for speedy deletion. (Reason: This is not a true or genuine reproduction of the original signature (compare details of the original jpg, linked below). This svg is misleading, and should not have been created including straight lines where original lines were subtly curved, and looking as if it were written by a modern person with a school felt pen. The original jpg may not be neat and tidy to look at, but it is genuine, and gives some indication of the hand of the writer. This svg version looks more like a fake signature on modern commercial packagaging,)
Why not upload a picture of a plant, animal, or anything else which fits into our scope. You can contribute any media type you want, including but not limited to images, videos, music, and 3D models. Start uploading now! If you don't have anything to upload at the moment, why not take a look at our best images or best videos, sounds and 3D models. File copyright status
[edit]Welcome to Wikimedia Commons. While everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the project, one or more of your file uploads had missing or false information regarding its source and copyright status. Please note that Wikimedia Commons takes copyright rules and infringement very seriously. Files may only be uploaded and included if their copyright status meets the conditions stated in our licensing policy, and if their source is clearly documented. Files that fail to meet those conditions may be deleted, and users who fail to meet them may be blocked. Please follow our first steps, if you haven't already. Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!
[edit]Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Ukrainian coats of arms
[edit]Hi, I would like to give some feedback based on Commons:Deletion requests/File:Svalyava gerb.png and File:Герб Свалави (Україна).svg (as well as File:UKR Перечин (Україна) COA.svg vs File:Perech s.png)
I think it is important to know that all official Ukrainian coats of arms (including images) are in public domain per {{PD-UA-exempt}}. Thus there is no point in trying to delete official coats of arms from Ukraine as long as they were officially adopted.
On the other hand, municipalities do not usually write heraldically correct descriptions, nor the symbols themselves are systematically heraldically correct. https://www.heraldry.com.ua/ (that you used) in particular is not an official website, they themselves make their own artistic representations of COAs and often write descriptions themselves. Using them is literally the worst way of getting a good coat of arms because you are making a copy of a copy.
So in case of Svalyava: there is a picture of the official coat of arms on the official municipal website. Then https://www.heraldry.com.ua/index.php3?lang=U&id=12058 gives their own artistic representations, at the same time removing elements that they consider wrong. One notable difference are golden letters СВАЛЯВА in the middle (which shouldn't be there from heraldic point of view but the municipality wanted it, and obviously an empty green field was not their intention). After that you are making your own version of it File:Герб Свалави (Україна).svg based on the blazon of the previous artistic representation.
I do appreciate that it is a vector version but I don't really see how and why anyone could use it. It is unfortunately so far from the original COA that it misleads more than it helps to identify it, so an accurate PNG is more useful in articles or on Wikidata.
If you do want to make vector versions, can you maybe try deriving them from the original images provided by municipalities (e.g. File:Svalyava gerb.png or File:Perech s.png)? These images are often more accurate than third-party descriptions. Thanks! — NickK (talk) 22:30, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- For the sake completeness, I think that your older works like File:Coat of Arms of Khyriv, Ukraine.svg or File:Герб Лозової.svg are of high enough quality and I don't see any major issues, they are good to be used with them. My concern is that newer uploads are not up to that standard — NickK (talk) 00:52, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I seem to have misunderstood {{PD-UA-exempt}}. I would have withdrawn the request, but it was already closed. Some of the newer coats of arms are unreasonably different from the versions actually used, so it seems reasonable to discontinue their usage. I was under the impression from what was probably poor translations and lack of knowledge of the Ukrainian language that https://www.heraldry.com.ua/ was listing official blazons, and that my interpretations of them were, while less aesthetically pleasing, technically heraldically correct. The two files you used as examples of higher quality SVGs aren't heraldic interpretations, but vectorizations of images already on Commons. All in all, I understand and agree with the points you've brought up, so I'll try to improve some of my worst vectorizations and steer in that direction for future uploads. I always appreciate constructive criticism and advise, so please tell me when you have any! ⇒ Zhing-Za, they/them, 19:39, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

Why does this file exist? OMGShay 92 (talk) 13:57, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- I had the idea for it for the template
{{LGBT symbol}}
before File:Under section sign, gay.svg existed. I just though, "oh well, might as well upload it, no harm". It is completely redundant, so I guess it doesn't really need to exist at all. ⇒Aerra Carnicom, they/them, 20:35, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
