Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Help with photos marked for deletion

[edit]

Hello, I am the editor of this page and the son-in-law of the painter, helping the family build the wikipage of my late father-in-law. So, the photos belong to the family, taken by us from the original paintings, or are family photos. How is it possible to make the photos acceptable for the wikipedia? WikiEditorStar (talk) 03:38, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Simply, Wikipedia's understanding is that copyright of a photograph of a two-dimensional work of art belongs not to the photographer but to whoever owns the copyright of the work of art. As for other photographs, the copyright of a photograph of (depicting) a person again belongs to the photographer. On the death of an artist or photographer, it often happens that copyright is transferred to one or more of that person's descendants. However, Wikimedia Commons can't just take some editor's word for it that (i) this has happened in a particular case, and further that (ii) he/she is, or is writing on behalf of, the copyright holder. You should quickly write to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org (the Volunteer Response Team), explaining the copyright status of each of the files that you've uploaded here. -- Hoary (talk) 06:45, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I will try to sort this out with permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Thank you for the clarifications. WikiEditorStar (talk) 09:12, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
