William Brown
[edit]I have uploaded a photograph of William Brown. He wrote a book in 1919 called "Our Lesser Brethren". He was an animal welfare activist and veterinarian. From what I have read he was present at the founder's meeting of the Cats Protection League. If you have any spare time let me know if you are able to work out his birth and death dates. I have not yet been able to find such information. Psychologist Guy (talk) 18:15, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- From this [1] he lived at Wiveliscombe, Somerset. Psychologist Guy (talk) 18:22, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Psychologist Guy He died in 27 September 1931, aged 70, so he was born c. 1861:
- > Wiveliscombe: The death occurred suddenly on Sunday, at Welwyn Garden City, of Mr. William Brown. Deceased was 70, and prior to taking up residence at Welwyn in 1925, he practised for 40 years as a Veterinary Surgeon here.[1] Throughthemind (talk) 17:03, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. He might not qualify for an article at Wikipedia, so its good to have a category for him at Commons. I will see if I can find anything else about him. Psychologist Guy (talk) 15:50, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- No problem. It seems that he was a prominent Quaker, he was described as one of the most active in the West of England. He was also active in the peace movements and in political organisations.[1] He gave speeches for the Labour party.[2] Throughthemind (talk) 20:16, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- His book "Our Lesser Brethren" was for sale, I emailed a friend and he ended up buying it. He will store it in his library. Thanks for the links, he probably would qualify for an article. Another person I am searching for a photograph for is an old Vegetarian Society member Samuel Saunders (1814-1908), see page 101 [2], died aged 94. A museum has a recipe of his [3]. He was a strict vegetarian for most of his life [4]. His brother was William Saunders. Psychologist Guy (talk) 01:03, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

J. Stenson Hooker
[edit]I noticed this photograph you uploaded was not Hooker [5]. If you see the original source here [6] Hooker was bald. The photograph that was uploaded was F. W. Edridge-Green. I do not think it can be corrected, let me know if you want me to submit it for quick deletion. I appreciate you finding that source, "Notable Londoners, an illustrated who's who of professional and business men" has many good photos. The full book is on archive.org. R. Bailey Walker
[edit]See page 62 for a photograph [7]. R. Bailey Walker was secretary of the Vegetarian Society [8]. He was also the first president of the Order of the Golden Age with Rev. H. J. Williams [9]. On page 163 is an obituary printed in full [10] also found here [11]. He died in 1885.
He may qualify for a Wikipedia article if we can find his first name. Psychologist Guy (talk) 04:04, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Update, I see there is a profile of him [12] page 121. It was Robert Bailey Walker 1839-1885. Psychologist Guy (talk) 04:06, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
Order of the Golden Age
[edit]On Wikipedia I have created many articles for council members of the Order of the Golden Age, I appreciate your help on those articles. There are a few others that may or may not qualify for an article but just noting them here as I have not been able to find their photographs, if you had any other information. The other council members without Wikipedia articles:
- Henry Brice from Exeter (1832-1903) - portrait painter and photographer [13] [14]. He was on the committee of the Devon and and Exeter Vegetarian Society [15]
- Robert Semple from Belfast (1841-1920) - Temperance activist [16], [17]
- Rev E. E. Kelly from Vicarage of Eartham (not been able to find his full name)
- Rev. Arthur Harvie, died 1905 from heart failure aged 36 or 37 [18], [19], [20], [21], [22], [23], [24]. Obituary in the Band of Hope Chronicle [25]
- Rev. Adam Rushton from Swiss Cottage, Upton, Macclesfield (author of the book "My Life as Farmer's Boy, Factory Lad, Teacher and Preacher" published in 1909). Most likely born in 1821, see page 70 [26] and died in 1920 [27], although this source says 1910 [28].
Rev Adam Rushton and Robert Semple might qualify for an article if we find more information and photographs. Psychologist Guy (talk) 16:24, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Rev. Arthur Harvie, I will write his article later tonight. Unfortunately no photograph yet found. Psychologist Guy (talk) 20:16, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Their honorary solicitor in 1901 was George Cozens Prior [29], he was also honorary solicitor for the Vegetarian Federal Union [30]. Psychologist Guy (talk) 20:49, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
