Images
[edit]Hi,
Apologies for the inconvenience, I'm rather new at all this. I've noticed that you've sent me a warning regarding the images I uploaded this morning and have been using on different Wiki pages. I had received a previous warning earlier by Yann and have since made it a top priority to only use images that I'm certain are in the public domain. Every image since have been used from the National Archives of Australia website, which is government run and whose images they have are all public domain.
If there is any issue to all this, could you let me know ASAP? Thank you - thescrubbythug
Copyright response
[edit]Okay, thanks for letting me know. I'd also like to know if the photos on the pages for David Fairbairn (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:David_Fairbairn.jpg) and Nigel Bowen (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nigel_Bowen_1966.jpg) which had been uploaded by different people have copyright issues or otherwise. At least in the case of Fairbain, the person who uploaded the photo took it from the exact same source as I have been using, so I'm wondering what differentiates that from the ones I uploaded - copyright speaking? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thescrubbythug (talk • contribs) 06:33, 25 June 2018 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
