Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, Tameko49!

File:Tameko_Wood.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

Herby I written you a message on my user page. Please think about what is there carefully before answering....possibly ask others what they think too PLEASE. Tameko49 (talk) 04:33, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK - you are obviously pretty resistant to reading things relating to this project so I will try and explain to you.
This project is solely here to act as a repository for freely licensed media to be used on other projects - nothing else. So it is not about "educating" people nor is it your page to decide what you wish to do with it. It is a Foundation owned page & they allow users a page on which they can say something about themselves - nothing more.
Please do not recreate the page or you will be blocked from editing. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 12:33, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

Ok thanks Herby for clearing that up. What I read I interpreted that it was educational. I drew the wrong conclusion. I apologize for that misunderstanding. The page was written about me though so I am still confused on that. I thought I was posting it on the user page in which you just confirmed could be about yourself.

Herby can I confirm that it is ok for me to write about myself on my user page and post my picture since I have the proper licensing per stifle?

Can I rebuild my user page to tell others about myself....because that is what I wrote about myself Tameko Wood?? I am confused.Tameko49 (talk) 19:26, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If your only contribution to this project is to place a page about yourself then the answer is "no" I'm afraid. That is not what such collaborative projects are about. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:20, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Herby it was a start and I am becoming familiar with this project but that is ok it is not a have to I see you can not add poetry or writings of any kind so I guess I have nothing to contribute at this time since I am after all I am a writer and poet. Can you give me an area that would be helpful and I will research it so I can contribute? Tameko49 (talk) 14:52, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Try Wikibooks or Wikiversity. Stifle (talk) 16:19, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is the Wikimedia Commons. Its aim is to create a library of free images. It is not for telling stories, writing articles, or encyclopedia content. Check out Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Alternative outlets for some other places where you may be able to tell your life story. I really don't mean for you to feel unwelcome, but this simply is not the website you are looking for. Stifle (talk) 16:21, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User page

[edit]

Unfortunately I did not put this hangon up in time Herby deleted it before it was in place. So how do I get it back he told me not to rebuild my user page but he did state the user page could tell you a little about me so why was it deleted because it was all about me and my life thus far.

I really would like you to put my page back and allow a discussion on it please.

What can I use my user page for? I thought I could use it for educating those on this site. I can't choose what I want to educate on? Why is that? What do you have against me giving a life lesson vs a book lesson? You said it was not a user page but it was a user page. I clicked on user page and my article and picture came up now it does not and it states you deleted it. In your comments it states "out of project scope: still out of scope--not a user page" Can you please explain?

Tameko49 (talk) 22:01, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes - bear in mind this is a project whose only purpose is to provide freely licensed media for use on other projects. It is not a place for "life lessons" or "book lessons". It is a place mostly for galleries of images. Text articles should be on Wikipedia if they are within scope. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 18:07, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks guys I am going to go out and take pictures this weekend.
