Sonnenuntergang Hafen.JPG

Hallo, Steinsplitter,

Your image nomination on QI

Hallo, nice image but small (in pixels) and there is no indication whatsoever were it is, a pity. And no metadata about your camera. If you please I can halp you with geocoding. Ciao --Wolfgang Moroder (talk) 19:15, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanke You. I speak german.

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Trijnsteltalk 18:04, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Multi-language descriptions for South Tyrolean municipalities

Hello. I would appreciate if you could first consult the users who introduced these descriptions before you undo them en masse. Following the accepted practice of Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle I was therefore obliged to undo all your changes. I fail to see why you removed the multi-language descriptions (German, Italian, Ladin), replacing them with English-only headers? As you know, Commons is not an English, but international project which brings together all language Wikis. Particularly in the articles, it is actually explicit Commons policy to give the respective native languages priority over English, but your exclusive use of the template had exactly the opposite effect. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 13:04, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Gun Powder Ma, the template that Steinsplitter have added to the South Tyrolean municipalities pages contains more languages than only English, as you can see at the editpage of the template. It contains even more languages as were written on the South Tyrolean pages before. For you, it seems to be it only contains English, becuase only the language of your preferences (English obviously) will be displayed. For this reason, the template is an improvement. Regards, Timk70 (talk) 15:22, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
Hello. This template only appears in English to me, both logged in and off. And at Bolzano/Bozen, seven languages appear. But with the template Steinsplitter I only ever see the English version. Where can I change the preferences accordingly? Gun Powder Ma (talk) 15:31, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Steinsplitter, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

renames

I've had this discussion before. I'm not obligated to use the number codes; in fact, the template has been specifically written to enable the use of '0' if I wish to use a personalized reason instead. All I am obligated to do is to use valid reason.

(Well, okay. I'm also obligated to not mistype the relevant characters -- if I miss a |, for instance, or if I hold my finger on 'shift' for a fraction of a second too long.) DS (talk) 14:21, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

I've had this discussion before. If I don't include a numerical value, it's because I've mistyped. The template was specifically written to allow me to continue using my customized rename rationales -- by prefixing them with 0 -- instead of using the pre-written ones. You say that the use of pre-written reasons, as coded by numbers, makes the process easier -- easier than what? Than the use of individual customized rationales? Then you are saying that the use of individual customized rationales makes the process more difficult. This is not the case for any user who is capable of reading English; although I am fully aware that not all Commons users are functionally literate in the English language, I should hope that such users would not choose to implement renamings based solely on numbers, without first verifying that the numerically-designated rationale actually applies. Remember, when you read a numerically-designated rationale, you must first mentally convert it into its human-comprehensible value, and then verify that the rationale actually applies. In other words, you are suggesting the following two-user process: A) "devise rationale", B) "determine appropriate numeric designation for rationale", C) "submit numeric designation", D) "read numeric rationale", E), "mentally convert numeric designation into human-parseable rationale", F) "verify that rationale applies", G) "implement rename". However, I feel that the following two-user process is more efficient and a better use of my time: A) "devise rationale", B)"submit rationale", C) "read rationale", D) "verify that rationale applies", E) "implement rename". My rationales are valid; if you do not feel capable of implementing them without first encoding, and then decoding, the rationales, feel free to either encode and decode them yourself, or to leave them for someone else to do. DS (talk) 14:43, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Ah. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to overload you; part of my point is that not everyone is fluent in English. My rationales are valid, and the template works just fine (unless I make a typing mistake, oops!). If you don't feel you can implement the rename without first converting the rationale into a number, and then converting the number back into a rationale, then you can do that yourself, or you can leave it for someone else to do. Polite notice

Herr Stein Splitter. Before massively renaming my images, you should've notify me. The original file names were not "meaningless" but indicated the catalogue number from my internal catalogue. By removing the catalogue numbers, you've made much harder for me to track my own pictures. - Darwinek (talk) 17:42, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for this message. I'm sorry. I think, the users request to rename your pictures was legitimate. Also, another user has renamed one of your files. I do not understand this problem? Commons Delinker should change the broken links. I'm sorry. regards--Steinsplitter (talk) 18:25, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
