Files nominated for speedy deletion

[edit]

I have nominated two of your uploaded files for speedy deletion under criterion F4 because they appear to have been incorrectly uploaded under a Creative Commons license. I could not find evidence that they were file under Creative Commons licenses by the copyright holders. The Pinellas Park photo was a screenshot from a YouTube Video, which are usually copyrighted, but the linked video apparently did not exist. At the other source, for the Birmingham tornado, the linked page states "images may be subject to copyright" and does not indicate that the owners filed it under a Creative Commons License. Hi! You are correct, The Pinellas Park photo is a screenshot from a YouTube video, but the creator said it is free to use with no copyright. The Birmingham tornado had no information on it, but I assumed since it was from a public library, it would be. Sorry for the second one, I’m new here. But the first one shoudnt be deleted Soicywings (talk) 01:29, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The YouTube link didn't work for some reason, so I had no way of verifying. In any case, the speedy deletion template I placed there offers a way for you to appeal it. As to the second one, my understanding is that there can be legal issues with material on ResearchGate. I'm not sure if it's necessarily copyright violations (there's someone I can ask about that), but I'm wary of it. I also changed the licensing tag on the Nickson, Kansas tornado. Images posed on National Weather Service webpages are public domain. TornadoLGS (talk) 01:54, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ok! How do I appeal the speedy deletion? Soicywings (talk) 03:33, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you go to File:F2 Tornado in Pinellas Park, Florida.jpg, you will see the speedy deletion template. Under "click here for more information" it will tell you (with links) how to replace the speedy deletion with a regular deletion request (since it is still subject to review). I'll note that since I placed the template, another editor (courtesy ping @Johnj1995: ) changed the deletion criterion to F3 (Derivative of another work as a non-free YouTube Screenshot). I did find the video and correct the link, but I did not find an indication that the video was free to use or without copyright, so I'm guessing the uploader communicated this to you privately? That alone is not sufficent since there must be evidence that the video is free of copyright or that the owner has filed it under a suitable license. The person who uploaded it to YouTube, in this case, is not the original owner. TornadoLGS (talk) 04:42, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
File:EF3 tornado near Nickerson, Kansas.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
